Needed to run over to the local Farm n Barn to pick up a few items. Saddle Bag size, so I took the Valk. Perfect evening. Temps about 68, not a cloud in the sky. What could be better? Once I was done, I pulled out of the parking lot, on to Hwy Q, or County Line Road. A long straight stretch of road, 4 lane devided. As I stop at the traffic light, a guy in a new looking, red Mustang pulls up in the left lane. Nice car, sounded mean. We were both first at the light, and he does the 'Vroom, vroom', to egg me on... He's got a manual transmision, and once the cross traffic light goes yellow, his RPM's jump up a bunch... Raaahhhhh... He's ready to launch. Green, and he stomps on it. Chirps the tires, and I get a Bozo turning out of a parking lot, right in to my lane... Mustang dude is flyin', and I couldn't do a thing, due to the car, now in my lane 50 yards ahead. I was able to swing around the guy in my lane, and regain front position, as we come to the next light, just turned red. Side by side with the Mustang, the road is flat and straight as a ruler, with no driveways, or cross traffic, for at least a mile. Cross traffic light goes yellow, and Mustang boy is reving again, and creeping ever so slightly, and ready to launch... Light goes green, and he again stomps on it... Only this time, I twist the wick hard, use the 'Kick Shifter' the way it was meant to be used, and by the time I hit 85, in third, he's waaay behind me. Considering I'm in a 50 mph zone, I shut down, and resume the speed limit. Mustang boy stays back about 10 car lengths, and looks like he's been beat. As luck would have it, we both are first at the next light. He pulls up along side of me, powers down the window, and sez "What the Fu@k is that thing?!?!?! I say, 'Tell yer friends you got SMOKED by a Honda'... His eyes get big, and he sez "That's a HONDA???" I nod, and we both continue on, as if we were taking our driving test... I love it when a plan comes together Black Dog

Blackdog:
Ya'll want to try me on for size with the Dodge Ram?
Let me know before Friday morning, I have an excuse to take it to the CBR.
Fell on the sidewalk downtown about noon Tuesday.
Tore up the elbow pretty good, it is still bleeding some, and got a quarter size spot on the knee and then just below the knee is a 4X4 rug burn from smooth pavement......
It is going to smart tomorrow when I bend it.

I had a similar experience with a kid and his cute little girlfriend in a new 'stang. He was varooom-varroooming me as well and when the light turned green, he floored it and smoked his tires while I proceeded to smoke his ass. At the next light we both stopped. I looked over and neither he or the girl would look in my direction The both acted like nothing had ever happened.

Not MC related, but many years (decades) ago, I was at a light and a corvette pulls up next to me and he is revving his engine. I put my automatic tranny in neutral (1/2 ton PU 3:08gears BUT I had built the 454) and rev. mine a bit. He is ready to go. Light turns green and off we go. Had him a car length within a block. Stopped at the next light and he wouldn't look at me, but his GF is turning red, she is laughing so hard. Nobody has challenged me on my Valk, I wonder why???

What a BIG TRUCK that was... Wife and I were out for a little ride sitting at a traffic light this MONSTER rolls up next to us. The light turns green and I take off normal not thinking this kid would want to race. We got up around 35 mph just shifted into 4th hear and I hear this ungodly roar in the right lane and the wife says that kid thinks he has a fast truck. By the time I reacted we were side-by-side, kicked it down to third and got on it. He hung with us for a good 200 feet or so... I must say that was one fast MoFo... It's been a long time since I seen a truck that big run that fast.

There's a place near my house where four lanes funnel down to two right after a light. I was coasting up to the light in my sissy-looking (super charged) Mini Cooper one day and an attitudinally-challenged fellow in a big new eight cylinder car passed me on the right and pulled over in front of me at the light. I pulled over to sit at the light in the right lane. After the light turned, he was behind me when I heard his big engine kick in. He knew he was doomed, he backed off right away... it wasn't fair or anything, what with the dismissive way he underestimated my little "econo-box" at the light... I'm not a street racer, so I don't have any idea of how well it would keep up with a Valkyrie, but my seat of the pants observation is that it would have run circles around my 98 springer...

Word of advice, if you ever flat-tow that Mini Cooper behind a motorhome, don't forget to put it in neutral and accidentally leave it in reverse. From what I hear from a guy on my bowling league, it will make a whole lot of very tiny pieces of metal inside the motor within a quarter mile. Plus, it's probably hard on the tranny.

Guys, I know this is an ancient thread, but you should NOT be getting all giddy when your Valk gets the upper hand on a few factory-issue cages. A Valkyrie is respectable and on a good day might (MIGHT) run a 12 second quarter mile, but can easily be beaten by a 4-wheeler that's been...let's say, tuned a bit.
I can remember a day a couple of years ago on my '94 VMax when a youngster in a aFox-bodied Mustang jumped on me - and I jumped back. I got roasted. My VMax was not stock and I had a stack of high 10's slips from Firebird raceway. He was quicker.
Moral? Careful who you jump on.

I'd be tickled pink getting a 13 second 1/4 miles time on my heavier Valk I/S. Doubt I could do 13.00 flat, but guessing 13.50 is do-able for a mediocre/average rider with average skills.
Still faster than most stock vehicles made even today.
I'd love to make my neighbor who has a HD 2003 Ultra Classic modded 88 motor eat crow since he spent I know for sure between 5-10K to make it not a pouch bragging up he smokes newer 1832cc Goldwings all the time on and off the race track. I think he is blowing smoke since hard to believe a 88 cu inch HD motor, even modded, can hang with a 1832cc Wing motor of any kind with any rider of average skills. And I know the 1832cc Wing motor is slightly faster than our 1520cc Valk motors.
Stanley Steamer: no disrespect at all owning a V6 Kia Sorento with 265hp or so. We have a newer 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe (similar to Kia Sorento) with the stock 3.3L V6 with 290hp and it is a smooth rocket ship when punched probably could beat my much heavier 381hp 5.7L V8 Toyota Tundra engine at the drag strip, for sure off the line.

Back in the days when I was young and stupid I had a '56 Chevy Corvette pull up alongside me at a traffic light. I had my Olds 88 Rocket which had cleaned a few clocks back then but I knew that I couldn't beat the Corvette so I put the hydramatic in neutral and revved the engine. I then dropped it back in drive and purposely let it lurch forward with my foot on the brake. The Corvette ace spun his tires and burned his way right through the red light, he was watching me instead of the light. Not a good idea on my part but the Corvette driver wasn't too smart for looking at me instead of the light. Hmmm, maybe I'll try that with the Miata. Anybody can beat the Miata. However, reduced horses keeps this lead footed geezer out of trouble.

My first set of wheels was 49 dodge coup with a flat head six and an exhaust needing replacing. It sounded bad. Pull up to light with a modified '55 chevy next to me. I had looked ahead as I pulled up and saw a local LEO setting behind some bushes a block or so ahead. So I sat there and hit the gas a few time, he responded. Light turned green and he took off like a stripped ape. Yeah, I was laughing as I rolled by at the speed limit and he was getting chewed out by LEO.
