Earlier I was roaming around YouTube and one video led to another which then led to a couple more when off to the side I saw an interview w/ Bruce Dern which was very short when he mentioned an interview Duke gave to Playboy so I decided to see if I could find it.

If you're a fan of The Duke as I am, you may like this interview, it's not short in its format but it's really good.

I find it VERY interesting how Many of his answers mirror what is happening Now-Today! And the Scary part-this interview was danged near 45 years ago! I M H O-Perceptive on his part-John Wayne-is understating it. Had some Real insight into the real problems-Then-and NOW.  cooldude Had the liberals figured out!  Wink RIDE SAFE.

Good read. The Duke was spot on many points which I agree with. However, today he (we) would be labeled as a bigot, racist, homphobe who enjoys his "White Privilege". Did I miss anything?

Good post about the Duke. He would be politically incorrect today and I'd go for that.

Some of the things that he mentioned about his dad showed up in one of his best, IMO, movies, The Shootist. Another good movie was The Quiet Man

The closest one today like the Duke might be Tom Selleck.  Selleck doesn't say much though.

Sam Elliot would make a good John Wayne, but he ain't no spring chicken

I'm a huge Tom Selleck fan since his Magnum PI days, especially since he really is a Detroit Tiger Fan.  Perhaps a closer anology to the Duke is Clint Eastwood who will speak out from time to time.  However in truth there is only one John Wayne.

Nice find Jersey Mike.  I read a few pages before being called away.  Will read the rest soon.  Somewhere in my past I have read this before.  I can not recall when, I suspect in my college days in mid to late 70s.  When Maureen O'Hara passed last fall and we talked about these two I found a few taped interviews by him.  When talking about the liberal redistribution schemes he said put 20 people in a room and give them all 1 dollar.  Then come back in a year ( I would say a couple of days ) and one of the people will have the majority of that money.  The world has always been this way and always will.
