Although I've owned a Valkyrie for 17 years and I feel confident I know my way around them, I have very little experience with Interstates.

When looking at one to purchase, what should one look at, that is unique to the Interstate?

Thanks

People are always talking about those rivets in the fairing...

I know Interstate owners who wish their Interstates had
the unobtainable pod lights...

Mechanically nothing really different. Maybe just check the mounting points of the bags, fairing and lowers for cracks. The insides of the air vents on the lower front crash bars for rust.

+1 on stripped or missing fairing nuts and screws.  If the bike has the OEM CB radio that's a big plus, they're getting harder to find.  Also, if you have racks on the bags and trunk you're ahead of the game.  The factory speakers are weak.  Ask if the speakers have been upgraded, and/or an amplifier installed.  Does it have the rear speakers installed?  Often they aren't.  Nice if the intercom is included also.

The dash electronics, the radio and cb if equipped along with the control unit.  The fairing, speaker panels, fairing wind deflectors.  Lack or addition of fender tail light, lights in the trunk. Potential Super Valk modifications.  Seat differences.

Still on first coffee.....so there is probably more.

The fairing you will probably notice if something mishap once you test ride it.  Although am sure solid,  mine daily squeaks/creaks due to am sure something loose inside in 1-2 spots.  I got used to it over the years not taking it apart and seeing where the creaking noise is occuring, but can get annoying if you don't turn up the radio some more.  I also sometimes hear something inside the fairing rattling around like a screw or plastic insert of some kind.

Yes,  the OEM front speakers are weak as well and not the best, but will do for some if not into 'great' sounding music.

Just look over the top trunk and hard sidebags as well to make sure in good shape no cracks and the lid closes nicely.  I know my sidebags close good because nearly everytime I use the lock in back,  the lid closing makes a woosh vacuum pack sound from sealing/locking the lid nice and tight.

Bill, everything is mechanically pretty much the same. I wouldn't worry about the fairing inserts, those are easy enough to fix. CB, pod lights, bag rails are all pluses to have. You trying to corner the market for the Northeast ?  2funny

Thanks for the response guys.

And no, I'm not trying for the northeast market, but the country.

What was the build estimate total, something like 50,000?

Only 49,996 to go. Grin

Each of the saddle bags are held on by 4 bolts. Under the bolt heads should be a rubber washer and a metal washer that has an extension on it for lack of a better description. That extension is so you DO NOT over tighten the bags and create stress cracks. If it comes with a fairing bra remove her bra  Roll Eyes and check out the portion of the fairing that was/is covered by the bra. Check out ALL the functions of the Radio/clock switch cluster on the clutch side. Your bass/treble/balance/volume and all the radio controls are in that cluster and should all work correctly. Some one already mentioned those lower fairing extensions on each side and they help with wind management a LOT. If that stock W/S is cut down and you like the wind in yer face-Okey Dokey. I like my stock height W/S as it carries the wind up and over and makes MY day in the saddle LOTS betta!  cooldude Hope I haven't overstated the obvious!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure what else I got I can move outside.  Already put my sit down lawn mower and wheeled leaf blower in exile. Undecided

I'm sure I'll figure it out. Roll Eyes

I have no problem asking for your help, but it's in Georgia.

Got my brother on it.  He already checked it out and took it for a spin.

It ain't a done deal just yet.
