Ride Safe, Be Kind

I picked up a copy of Road Runner magazine the other day on a whim, I've never heard of it before but it looked interesting.  Reading through the letters to the editor section, I came across your letter about your trip on your Matchless and your later Valkyrie trip.  It's truly a small world!

I like that mag and I'm considering renewing it even though I don't ride any more.  Yep, it sure is a small world.

I like to write letters to the Editor and also stories.  Now you got me started. Some years ago (seems like i use that phrase a lot) when I worked at Magnavox, I needed a Bird wattmeter calibrated to meet gov. specs. I took it to the instrument lab and was patiently waiting for it to come back when I went on vacation.  We vacationed 500 miles away in the UP of Michigan.  One of the places that we visited was Tahquamanom Falls, off the beaten path.. We walked down 50 steps to the Falls, got to the bottom, and there I saw the guy from Magnavox who was supposed to calibrate my wattmeter. Without missing a beat I walked up to him and said, " Damn Al, I've been looking all over for you, where is my Bird wattmeter?"

Solo, That's funny.
My Dad was a H/S teacher in So Cal.
I met a guy who had been in one of his classes. We had both joined the Navy.
We were in the Phillipines and shared a few stories.

When I first went on active duty, living in the single Q, I dated another Jr JAG officer I worked with (not for) who lived down the hall.  We were both extremely busy working long hours and not much time for dating others.  We got along very well and both agreed that our relationship (fully legal re. fraternization) was best kept on the QT from everyone.   Toward the end of my tour, she started getting serious (we had a casual relationship, not exclusive, but no commitments made) and I backed off because I did not want to marry at the beginning of what I hoped was a long USAF career.  I then shipped out to Turkey.

I met my current wife in Turkey, and we married, then took a 2d tour in south Turkey.  On my return from overseas to CONUS, I stopped over in Germany to visit with my Lt Col boss.  When my new wife and I showed up to his house in Frankfort, sitting in his living room was my former USAF lover, who had separated active duty and was now a civilian lawyer for USAF in Germany.  Everything was pleasant enough, but there were definitely some dirty looks, raised eyebrows and knowing smiles.  The world was absolutely too small that day.
