body boarded pipeline in December, 99.  also boarded the Wedge as a kid.  Both very big and treacherous, but nothing like that!

nope, not for me.

I feel anyone brave enough to NOT wear a life jacket in water over their heads in strong or even piddly waves is crazy.  I once tried surfing in piddly waves in Florida and NOT for me, way too dangerous would drown if much over my head even very near shore.

NEVER underestimate the power of water.

I still don't know why surfers do not wear life jackets or at least those pull type cords than inflate a life jacket?

Wet suits increase their buoyancy with less the restriction to movement.
