obama will not attend. This is a first, this has never before happened.

The press even asked if obama was going to play golf that day.

According to the evening news (NBC), this is not the first time a President has not attended a SCOTUS funeral but, either the VP or the President has attended SCOTUS funerals.    Obama is scheduled to attend the "visitation" on Friday with his significant other.

Four out of the past seven funerals for a Supreme Court justice have either had the president or vice president in attendance.

Former President George W. Bush attended the funeral for Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Former President Bill Clinton attended the funerals for former Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Justice William Brennan but did not attend the funerals for Justices Harry Blackmun or Lewis F. Powell Jr.

Former Vice President Al Gore attended the funeral for Justice Thurgood Marshall.

Personally, if I was part of the deceased person's family, I wouldn't invite him to attend but, that's just me.

Word!!!!  People are already feeling bad enough.... without becoming physically ill.

Besides, it probably saves us a million five for his entourage not having to show up.

Hmm, I guess I didn't think of it that way. You guys are right, I wouldn't want him at mine or my families either.

The news I saw said its never happened before, so, I thought it was protocol and a matter of respect.

President Barack Obama will travel to the Supreme Court on Friday to pay his respects to the late Justice Antonin Scalia, whose death last weekend has sparked a bitter political fight.

The White House said Obama and the first lady would visit the court as Scalia's body lies in repose.

The next day, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife will attend a funeral Mass for Scalia at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington.

I did not vote for President Obama but this whole dustup because he won't be at the funeral is ridiculous. If he expresses his condolences to the family on Friday, what is wrong? Have you ever not attended a friend's funeral?

This was a current sitting Supreme Court Justice. Proper Decorum would be the attendance of the POTUS at the funeral, as well as paying respects privately the day prior.

The decision to not attend is not cool. He better have an appointment to be saving the world during this time.

Unfortunately, the funeral conflicts with his tee-time

I'm not crazy about Obama, but:

Presidents often stay away from some affairs in order to avoid the distraction of the Presidential Entourage. This is especially true of funerals unless the President's attendance is requested by the family.

Taking the political ideologys of the President and Justice Scalia into account, I doubt hat the presidential dog and pony show would have been especially enjoyed by the Scalia Family.

I believe it to be true that the President and First Lady attended the body in state function.

I enjoy a fair shot against Obama as much as anyone but, as life in general, I don't care for taking shots just for the sakeof it.

Just maybe Obama considers it payback. He is, after all, childish and vindictive enough to do that.
