Yesterday was in the upper 50's and I saw more bikes out than during all my winter rides combined. Six bikes going north at high speed (what is high speed  warp ? ) near Bryant Pond Rd had a problem  Maybe the riders were rusty, I dont know the cause

The lead lost control hit the divider, went over and was killed
another rider also down but not killed as he hit a car braking to avoid the down bike

This is, in that area very narrow lanes just about 8-9 feet wide, no shoulder and going more than 55 limit is illegal. That said most traffic moves at 70+.

You have to respect the road, always

Late January early Feb had 3 or 4 riders killed here in southern Missouri Evan. One on the North side of West Plains Mo-an elderly woman pulled into a couple on a M/C and took them both out. I believe the old gal was in her 90s.  Embarrassed Had one or 2 die around Springfield Mo in that same time frame. The haven't been subjected to US-RIDERS-for a couple months and the "riders" could have been rusty. I posted yesterday about MY own close encounter! I AM NOT Paranoid-THEY ARE out to get us!  Cry These first weeks after a thaw and those last week before winter ARE-I M H O-MOST dangerous for us-RIDERS. RIDE SAFE.

Back in 2002 first year I had the valk rt 92 just past Daytona speedway. Couple of youngsters on sport bikes go flying past me. INTO the cars with the girlfriends inside

2 DOAs lying on the road another "missing" in the swamp with the gators

So I got to "see" it but I don't need to see it again, once was enough

Ah.  I just looked it up, it was north of Bryant Pond on the narrow twisties.  I personally love that area, still in the original Taconic mold rather than the renovated super-parkway that everything south of 202 has become, but you've got to be good and on your toes, plus it is not a place to play if the road condition is even slightly suspect.  I was out this weekend and roads are far from OK, a tremendous amount of grit and water is about.  For summer riders not used to incliment or early conditions, plus long tire warmup times, it's asking for trouble.  My rides down numerous back roads had me backing out of the throttle, and feathering light on the brakes, quite often.

RIP Rider. I have personally seen two MC accidents in the same stretch, once with two fatalities. Nice road, but unforgiving. The "Wall" in notorious.  In our younger days we would do  the Bronx to Peekskill Hollow Road run often.

Bonzo,   Peekskill Hollow Road to 301 then left to the Hudson is a nice run for northern Westchester, Putnam counties
Only 2 traffic lights one at 9 and one at 9D
Deer are a concern always
On weekends starting in April there will be police checkpoints

Yes the roads have traffic driveways and side roads that cars can enter unlike a road like the dragon where you dont have to worry about who is coming from the sides.

Thats why I love 106, Arden Hill Rd and 7 Lakes once you are on them just enjoy the ride

I like the Taconic a lot.  I do slow down to near posted speed limits when approaching those valleys inbetween the ups and downs (north bound) because cars do pull out of those lots just off to the side and I think one is a cop shop as well.  On the southbound side, there is a tendency to give more throttle going up those long narrow inclines, but then when you reach the top and the road turns left it's like you're coming out of a slingshot and you're flying around that curve.  The Valkyrie's torque makes it's presence known.  And the Walls are definitely intimidating.  I try to be in the left lane where there are walls.  Cross traffic and deer are the wild cards on this road.  It's why I don't ride it often.  I consider myself lucky so far.  My brother lives in Wappingers Falls, right off the Taconic and I've ridden up to him about 30 times over the years with 4 or 5 close calls with cross traffic up near Carmel.  I started flashing my headlight as I approached these stupid intersection as a rule.  But I still like the road.   uglystupid2

Oss , like you but not the heading.  The moron  did himself in , not the road. You indicated high rate of speed. We see it to often.
We talked to the leo on the dragon. A first time rider with less than a hundred miles on his crotch rocket killed. It is the lack of experience. I have been in my share of accidents. The last three were rear enders. I still take chances , but try real hard to think ahead.
