Not for me, but my son has a 2013 Yamaha FZ8 (800 cc) he purchased new.  First year with Rider, he paid about $300.  Last year was about $550 and this year going up to $750.  All this with a clean driving record.  Rider has apparently reclassified his bike (maybe as a super sport).  Trying several different insurance companies has not resulted in any lower premiums.

I have my bike (98 Tourer) bundled with homeowners and auto for about $400/yr which is also probably more than some are paying.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Insurance companies are completely out of control. It has all to do with being male, his age, where he lives, his driving record and what he drives/rides.

I have some insurance horror stories I could share but don't want to hijack this thread  tickedoff

Insurance companies have been paying out big in the past 5+ years. Gotta make up that deficit somehow so they get in the nickers of everyone they insure.

I sold Pontiac in 1989 and 90 in Brooklyn, NY.  None of the insurance carriers would insure the firebirds.  And that was when the horse power on the 350's was only 225 or something like that.  I would suggest to the customer to register the car with someone who lives in another state.  You can't believe how many brooklyn Trans Ams were registered in Manalpin, NJ.

The insurance (Foremost) on EACH of my 2 Valks went up $150 to $450 last year supposedly due to all the uninsured motorists. Can't wait to get the bill for this year.

You would think that at 34, if he has a good record, they would consider him responsible.  I know when my little brother was in his early 20's, he had a bullet bike and an SUV.  The insurance was killing him.  Got ride of the bullet bike for a cruiser and the SUV for a pickup...insurance went down.

I think it is because of all the nut jobs putting non specific motorcycle tires on their bikes. 2funny

All I can say is try Allstate,  Geico, and Progressive and switch insurance companies.  He is bound to find one of them much, much cheaper than that.

If insurance gets to be too much based on the type of cycle,  I guess unless he loves it to death, time to sell it and get another Valk in the stable (or another cycle cheaper to insure)?

In some (most?) states your insurance rates are based on your credit score not your driving record.  uglystupid2

I froze my credit last year after a few identity theft issues and when buying a new (to me) work truck last year, was told I must allow my insurance company to review my credit report even though this is the same company I have had for 18 years and I wrote a check for the truck. I shop price every so often but still have American Family.

I had Progressive for 12 years with a clean record but they would still bump my premium a little every year. Finally I had enough of watching their cute little commercials and dropped them. I shopped around and found Allstate to be $150.00 less a year for the same coverage. I gave Progressive the oppourtunity to price match if they wanted to keep my business, they weren't interested so there gone. Just renewed with Allstate and the rate stayed the same as last year.

Sadly they can't sell Ins in NC.  I hate the lack of interstate competition in the auto ins industry.

Interesting with Allstate and Progressive and Liberty Mutual and other insurance companies though.  You call one agent and they for EXACT same coverage are 100's more than the next agent you call from EXACT same company, EXACT same coverages.  I asked one agent about that and some agents get more of a discount than others.  NICE, pass the savings onto the customer, but 100's less is a rip off.  Goes to show you some agents 'maybe' can be more greedy than others or do a better job selling the insurance to get a deeper discount to pass along to those needing insurance.

Thought I would get in on the conversation about this....I have my 1976 Suzuki RAm 550 insured for 115.00$ and my 1998 Valkyrie costs me 221.00$ thru a company called Wawanesa here in Canada, it is a Canadian company with its headquarters in Winnipeg, Manitoba that deals across Canada and in California and Oregon in the States  .....3 years ago my Suzuki was 90.00$ a year so it has gone up a little
