After reading a thread about getting the ignition key to work on saddlebags bought off another bike, I finally took my latches in and had them done  cooldude. I was really surprised by the cost. You guys south as I read, get them done for about 15 - 20 bucks US. So I'm thinking it's going to cost me at least 35 - 45 bucks Canadian as we pay more for everything it seems  tickedoff.  Well, $15.37 later, I'm thinking you guys must be getting ripped off!!  2funny

Wow, just think, that's like $11 USD too. They REALLY are paying too much now.

I'd a payed whatever to have them done......the $15 was a surprise though.
The locks will only keep the honest guy out but I'm glad they work.

I bought hard bags, then 2 - 3 months later I bought the matching trunk.  All keys were the same.  At a rally last year, I saw someone with the same bags and sure enough, all the keys worked all the locks.  After spending so much money, it pains me to have to spend more for security when everything already comes with keyed locks.

I was a locksmith in my youth and we would order stock for the store and truck.  Most wholesaled locks come in packs of 4 where all 4 use same keys.  Because of this, if the 4 locks are separated, different houses will have locks that use the same key.  But the chances of the public knowing who has the same key/lock is quite small.  It was convenient when putting multiple locks on the same house, though.  Saved a lot of time and the customer only needs to carry one key.

My old boss is still in business and I keep thinking I'll them done next time I'm local to him, but that hasn't happened.

So where is this thread you're talking about?  (or is that aboot?)

Is it just for IS and tourers? Or can it be done on American national (I think) bags? (the ones that look like an Alien head)

Just for Honda bags and trunks.  It's actually even a bit more restrictive.  Honda used two different key styles the difference being the way the keys offset.  My understanding is you can only make the locks match if the two use the same type offset.

BTW, tkylli, if you got screwed for $36 let me assure you that you were well below the market price.   Wink   cooldude

I hope I haven't misled anyone.  The market to which I referred was not locksmith prices.  A locksmith should charge less than $10 per lock assuming you took the lock off for him.  If you present the lock still installed in the bag a bit more for labor might be charged.
