Is it necessary  to open up the front Reservoir when pushing the front piston back in?

I just slip a hose on the bleeder and open it a bit before pressing the pads back. Let the excess fluid run into an old plastic bottle, put the cap on it and toss it in your neighbor's trash.  Wink

John unless you top off the resivor as your pads wear there will be no excess fluid ???never done that on any car or bike.

I would take the lid off just so I can make sure the level doesn't get too high as I press in the pistons.  There is nothing to prevent you from pushing them in farther than they were when the pads were new and you topped off the fluid.  I always change the fluid when I change the pads, because by that time it due to be changed anyway, so the lid is already off.
