Decided on Glacier NP after our 2 nights in Deadwood during the rally. Leaving DW and overnight in Billings MT. Then Beartooth and 2 nights in Cooke City. Swing thru Yellowstone NP thru Idaho to Glacier. Wont make Lolo pass like Id hoped. Gonna spend 2 nights in West Glacier. What good sites should we see. Def will be on the "Road to the Sun". Headed home thru East Glacier and hope to go thru the Badlands/ Teddy Rosevelt NP in ND.

You're already hitting the two I would mention, the beartooth and the highway to the sun. The ride through Idaho around the Tetons and down into Jackson Hole was pretty good too. In particular, dropping down into Jackson Hole.

Dear Friend

I did both the Beartooth and Going to the Sun last year.

Most people stop at West Glacier and head from there to the Going to the Sun road heading East.

I would suggest that you instead sleep in East Glacier the day before riding the Going to the Sun, as there is less traffic from East to West and you won't be stuck behind a RV or trailer.

Half way to West Glacier there is a visitor center and you can park and walk to one of the snow fields. You can check some photos in:

Concerning the Beartooth Pass, pay attention that the weather up there is unpredictable and even in summer may happen some snow. I checked the weather forecast before riding and timed it perfectly to leave the summit 30 minutes before a storm.
:-)

Cheers

Did Glacier many years ago on my way to Alaska from Ft Hood.  Was in a motor home pulling a trailer loaded with a Land Cruiser station wagon.  Made all the National Parks in between, going to the sun was a hoot with that rig.  Now those kind of rigs are banned on it.  Was one of the highlights of the trip, am sure you will enjoy it immensely.  Would love to retrace that trip, the Alcan was still dirt back then, so probably would be some better now.

We did Tetons after leaving YS 2 yrs ago. It was miserable. Rain/sleet, windy, and 40 deg.  Sad

Few yrs ago BT pass was 40 deg. Last yr when we rode it, it was nice. We did the entire pass with her wearing a short sleeve shirt.

The route we are taking thru Idaho kinda puts us at west Glacier. We live in Indiana and it would be a lot of back tracking to go east to west and back east again. Only have a few days to get home after the trip. Be cutting it close as it is. The park does offer a tour shuttle which is a option, esp if it rains.

Did the Alcan the first time in '61. Was 3 years old and my brother 1 and a half. My Mom drove us in a Studebaker from Harlingen TX to Anchorage. My Dad had already been sent there.
