Mark and I talked to Mark's attorney.  Mark lost his job because he refused to pay to pay for an accident at work that wasn't his fault.  Even though the company had insurance the general manager demanded that he pay for damages.  On the advice of his attorney (it was not a legal debt) he refused and was fired immediately.  The attorney told him up front that he might be fired so the attorney gave him the right info.

Now, there will be no 'get even' on Mark's part.  If the GM 'blackballs' him and lies, then something can be done, otherwise not.  Mark is moving on. He does so with the up front knowledge that he did the right thing.

I won't mention the name of the Chevy dealer in Ft. Wayne or the general manager.  Emails would not be productive with this case.  Time to move on.

yah, employed at will I take it for the most part means you can leave anytime and the employer can fire you at anytime as well pretty much with any reason.

Am sure he doesn't want to work for a dirtbag like that anyways,  time to move on as said.  I quit one job well over 14 years ago or more now after only 5 months employed leaving what 'I thought' would be a step up from a cushy job having it made but bored at.   I thought totally wrong with near new startup company going thru WAY WAY too many growing pains with the psycho boss I had was a control freak micromanager _itch never before seen in this world actually seeing a psychiatrist for her psycho crazy mental ways.

That experience taught me MORE money doesn't even matter vs. having a GOOD non-psycho boss to work for 110% of the time.   If miserable at your job with a crazy psycho boss no amount of money will take that place of being somewhat happy (or should I say NOT miserable) at work.

If you don't respect the person you work for, you need to leave.  I've done it twice.  Mark will land on his feet - he comes from good stock.

I'm afraid a complaint to Corporate would fall on dead ears. My brother was a union worker for GM for many years; his last job before retiring was QC on incoming vendor parts. He told me they just sat around all day; the company never gave them any parts to check. Apparently it was cheaper for them to pay the employees for doing nothing instead of fixing the vendor problems. Fish rots from the head, it does...

Evan, you are absolutely right.  Twila has been his Rock in all of this.  She helps establish his priorities.

Yesterday, Mark borrowed my 120volt drill so that he could polish his Valk's wheels, just before he replaces the wheel bearings. cooldude

I'll need to see Twila to schedule his time so that he can install twin Hella horns on my Miata to replace the Valk like horn that's on there now. Beep, Beep. Smiley

Maybe not get even so to speak. But if you've gone this far at least get your money back from the guy. He should have 30 day of ins left. Use it.

Brian, the money was never given.  Mark also will get his vacation time money. He hasn't lost anything but his job. His attorney did pro bono (Oss, is that the proper word for free services?)

Had one control freak boss in my life a long time ago-made 3 hours of a 10 hour work day! AND I did NOT punch the sumbitch out. He NEEDED to be punched out but I didn't. Mark has the skills-he WILL get a better job.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

He'll look back on this and wonder how he stayed there so long. Good on him for doing the right thing and standing up for himself.  cooldude

Good wishes and good luck to him. He'll find a better job, I've no doubt. He's a smart and honorable guy.
