That's the thing: Trump is not a "conservative".  It's a nice throw wrap he has thrown over his shoulders to appease people looking for the "GOP Stamp" on the box, but he's historically more moderate-liberal than conservative-moderate.

Yet the people are eating it up.  Well, that, and a "billionaire" (one with massive debts that offset that claimed wealth) New Yorker being called an "outsider" and "not an elite", that is.  Because nothing says "I'm not an elitist, I'm an outsider!" like a New York real estate developer who's played ball with local governments to get exact what he wants, by playing their game, running with them at parties and making those backroom deals, right?

OK, if that is true then why aren't you applying the same rule to the other candidates who are running?

After all, they are therefore only playing that very same game...

The joke is, and to many people are either in denial or brainwashed by their side's talking heads, is that we already ARE a hybrid socialist economy.

Yes yes, you say, Welfare and Social Security are "socialist", repeating the mantra of those pundits.  But in all the brainwashing of social welfare socialism, they always manage to avoid discussing, thereby hiding, CORPORATE socialism.

"Corporate socialism?", you ask, "No such thing!  It's just doing good business!".  Really?  We give tax breaks to corporations, thereby lowering their costs of the social burden of infrastructure upkeep, infrastructure they use every single day (roads to transport raw materials and finished good, water, sewer, police protection, fire fighting, etc etc) but they get to keep their income (profit) private.  They can pollute the environment the point of poison and then outright walk away from the problem and make the public pay for the cleanup (our billion dollar Superfund bill).  They get BILLIONS of dollars in subsidies (oil and agriculture) and not only privatize the profits but in some instances even avoid paying TAXES on that income, income we subsided into existence (oil industry offshoring profits and doing the double-Irish).  GE gets millions of dollars in defense contacts but then doesn't pay a thin dime in taxes on their profits.  Wal-Mart paid their workers so poorly that they received those social benefits we were all paying for, thereby and directly socialising their costs of business to somewhere else, that being the America public.

We are even giving tax writedowns to corporations for the cost of outsourcing our own jobs to foreign countries.

And the corporate corruption goes on, and on, and on.

But we're told that "Socialism is evil"....but only when that term is connected with private handouts.

I'm moderately amused by people who bang the drum of "we need to tax corporations higher.  Where do they think the money for those higher taxes will come from?  The income (total revenue) of corporations comes from their customers.  That would be you an me more than likely.  An increase of corporate taxes is essentially a hidden tax increase on the American public at large.  I do recognize that would not so much apply to what corporations might market outside of the U. S. of A. but that would be covered by export taxes if needed rather than a simple increase in corporate income tax.

And I'm quite amused by people who dismiss corporate taxes.  It takes a definitive amount of money to supply and support the American infrastructure.  From national defense, to road repairs, to garbage removal to water treatment to air quality, it takes money to make sure all of our living conditions are of high quality.  The corporations benefit from these very same systems yet somehow they should be exempt from paying for it.

The money has to come from somewhere, so if "corporations are people too" but they are not paying their share, who has to pay the difference??  That's right - us, the American public, Joe Average.

While the profits, saved from not paying those taxes, go to increased management pay and increased Wall Street dividends.  Some of those dividends go to private, small investors, sure.  But as you know, the largest holders of corporate stocks are either Wall Street houses or a low number of very wealthy individuals, thereby subsidising their increased income off our backs.

Maybe you are right - the system is too broken to fix.  If companies pay more taxes they only increase costs because, nowadays, the wealthy and powerful are only asked to share benefits but not penalties.  They take home millions as upper management...but, when the business fails, it is always "someone else's fault" and they keep their money.  But individual, small investors lose everything (while the corporate investor gets a disbursement from the bankruptcy court).

Corrupt system, corrupted by money.

I guess where our perspectives differ is that one of us believes the additional taxes will be taken out of corporate profits or the salaries of corporate big whigs.  One of us is incorrect.  It could be me and it could be you.

It's good that we can provide one another with some amusement.   Wink

But if you bother to look at  true history, before 1913, sure people had these things....and the average worker also had horrible living conditions and many worked in horrible jobs, with many people dying in those jobs.

I understand the belief that the past was so good, no taxes, etc.  But let's talk actual reality and not Hollywood fantasy, please.

Yeah.  Right.

Too funny.  The topic is the trustworthiness of Hillary.  The woman who has been proven a liar, and then lied about the lies, was caught again, and then lied some more about the previous lies, on several different issues.  This is fact, not fiction. A person who took millions from banks and foreign heads of state while in office and while positioning herself as a presidential candidate (and lied about that too).  And your reply is say, "But what about your side, they suck too."

I don't think anyone dismisses corporate taxes. Seems like everyone I know believes they should pay their taxes and not receive all the breaks they get or the 'welfare' they receive.
We have the largest corporate taxes with apparently the most convoluted tax laws of anyone, so, as usual, I blame the dumbass politicians such as charlie rangel for one for this mess.

That's just it, Carl, they don't think to the next step.  Or the step after that.

For example.....  "We'll tax the rich to pay for it."  Like the corporations, the rich don't pay taxes.  They have lawyers, accountants, disguises, etc. to avoid paying taxes (hate the game, not the player).  And even after all that, they still cover about half the fed taxes.  You really think they're gonna let Bernie take more?

And once you give away the free stuff, it becomes somebodies "right" now to have that free stuff so it goes on forever.  So the cost falls right on the middle class, again.  And again, and again, and again.

Corporations are already leaving for a number of reasons and taxation is one of them.  Like Carl said, they have to pass the increases on to their customers, but they still have to remain price competitive so it goes further.  Like Peavy Amps (saw it on undercover boss last night) shipping manufacturing overseas.  Bye-bye to all those jobs.

The consequences don't seem to matter.

There's a disconnect here.

Dino keeps saying the phrase Corporate Taxes.  However, there is NO SUCH THING as corporate taxes.  What we "call" a corporate tax is simply just a line item on a tally sheet labelled Cost Of Doing Business.  The cost of doing business determines the price of the product the business sells.  The price the business sells the product for is the cost that the public (the only real tax payer) has to pay.

Now as for profits......... (see above about hating the game).

So exactly, how does it help to raise taxes on businesses?  If prices go up and people have less now to spread around, who benefits?  If jobs go away when the business can't stay competitive, who benefits.
