My new job at work entails going to school in Oklahoma on a semi-regular basis. I plan on riding there from upstate NY. I'm thinking one of those seat covers , furry or beaded, might make the long ride a little more tolerable. I would appreciate opinions from others with these kinds of seat covers and where to get them. Thanks in advance for your always sage advice.

I can only speak for riding with beads. I went to beadrider.com and ordered an affordable bead set to fit my Ultimate seat.
Riding with a bead covered seat distributes pressure points, and allows airflow to keep you dry which stops chaffing. If it is cold out I don't use the beads. If it's hot out they are a must.

I used the Alaska Sheepskin fur on my 3 day ride to Inzane last year. I ordered the one with the long hair. Didn't like it. It felt lumpy in places. The short haired version looked much better.
Never used beads.

Used beads while driving my big truck-18 wheeler. Haven't tried the beads on Phatt Ghurl. On Phatt Ghurl I have a sheepskin I got at Ikea. Warm in winter and cool in summer and the best 50 bucks I've ever spent on a M/C. When I first got the sheepskin it was snow white!  Too many miles and far too many chili incidents!  RIDE SAFE. |

Asses and sizes/weights vary so much, it is hard to know what might serve you best. The same is true for choosing seats. When choosing, do not rule out an Airhawk riders medium (the large is identical to the medium, with just a longer nose to crowd your boys and lay on the tank).  |

I use the lambswool seat cover, in the heat stops the sweating and makes things much more comfortable. When cold out it was also nice to have as it didn't provide warmth as much as it kept the cold out. The softness made the Corbin seat perfect and just enough cushioning to keep me happy. Not to mention it doesn't slide or move on the seat either.

Alaska and back twice on a gel pad covered in Sheepskin. Never used the strap they sent with it. Raised me up 1 1/2" or so. Usually sit on it for two tanks of riding, then two tanks riding without it.
Local friend changed out his fur for beads, New York cabbies can't be all that wrong.
Tried an airhawk at Bikeweek and hated it. Try to borrow one before buying, if only to see what fits your needs.

I got my short napped black sheepskin custom made here by bringing in my I/S seat since I wanted it to wrap around the sides of my seat as well taking up more than just the top. They originally told me over the phone 100 bucks but when I got there with my I/S seat they charged me 120 bucks, still worth it though in my opinion, but a bit pricey. Long napped sheepskin was same price, but didn't care for the looks but some grizzly looking HD riders had them in front of the store on their bike, just wasn't for me. I would think long haired sheepskin would be even more comfy though just looked odd in my opinion, too much fur. While ordering, check out the fur bikini's for the misses - LOL... It helps in the cold and warm both and raises me up just a smidge, tops 1cm, if that. Does help extend the ride another 50 miles or so but you need gas every 150-200 miles so time to get off the bike anyways right?? I tried an airhawk seat cushion and had too much air in it ONLY need 'just enough' to get you off the seat is all since was too high up couldn't touch the ground flat footed. I retrieved a purchase for Raymond once from Chicago suburbs to Kansas City suburbs. When I picked it up it had beads on the saddle and I rode on them for about forty miles. That was near all I could manage. Some folks really like them. I tend to be a bit of a hard ass. If I were to go with one or the other I believe I would lean strongly toward the fur. |
