So, my wife quotes me this neologism for right wing extremists. "Teanderthal". Funny right? We both laughed and laughed Well, maybe not but we smiled and admired the cleverness. Now I'm looking for a clever neologism for those on the left. No profanity, scatalogical or personal references to particular people please.

Libunatics is good . Neologism. A made up word or phrase from one or more existing words to describe something or giv e definition to. Examples other than libunatics Conservaschism (n.) kun-SUR-va-SKIZ-um The early-21st-century political divide in the U.S. Congress between moderate Republicans and far-right extremists who refuse compromise at any cost. Or Ignoranus (n): A person who's both stupid and an asshole. Or posted by G-Man just recently. Hispandering

liberal is the standard one, but I try to avoid it and avoid ad hominem attacks...
Moon bat is one I hear a lot, although it's just a term, not really any meaning to it.

I've heard and seen some pretty good ones, like republicant, rethuglican, etc. But you know me, I don't like to use these hurtful words. I'm a lover, not a fighter.

My son made one up when he was just 8 years old. We still use it today when the opportunity presents itself. We wouldn't let him swear as a young lad and one day he came home from school and said one of the kids was picking on others. He couldn't call him an "a$$hole, and he was a real loser... So he said, "He's a real LOSEHOLE" pronounced "LUZHOLE" Losehole has stuck, and he's now 31 years old.

I'm not really sure I can get into neologisms. Truthfully where we find ourselves is that I think everyone who sees the world differently than I do is stupid. It's pretty well guaranteed that people who see the world differently than I do think I'm stupid. It really takes little or no skill to make up names by which we can ridicule the people with whom we disagree.
The real accomplishment is when I can sit down with someone with whom I disagree on the fundamentals of life with him thinking I'm stupid, with me thinking he's stupid and yet with each of us treating the other with the respect due an intelligent human being. That's an achievement worth striving for.

I couldn't agree more. I'm one of 3 or 4 'liberals' out of 24 mechs at the job. There's plenty of ball-busting and good natured ribbing that goes back and forth. There's occasionally a little heat in the discussions that come up, but they always end peaceably. It happens here on this board, too, but they're decidedly fewer in number. It usually ends up in name calling and jabs, without much substance. Too bad.

Let me just say I wasn't looking for derogatory, insulting made up words. There's enough of that already going on in the world and I don't need to add to it. I love word puns and was just looking for cleverness for my own amusement. My apologies if anyone misunderstood my intentions. Mike

Let me just say I wasn't looking for derogatory, insulting made up words. ... Take this is the gentle kindness with which the observation is delivered. You didn't find your example term, Teanderthal, to be derogatory or insulting? Unfortunately, and maybe it's unique to the culture in which we live, we very, very rarely come up with pet names for those with whom we disagree that are not demeaning, derogatory or insulting. Once more I say that when people see the world differently than do we we believe they must be stupid. Truthfully, most of us are not nearly as smart as we think we are. The best practice, it seems to me, is to avoid the use of such things as neologisms. I have a few friends, some on this board, who regularly practice the use of demeaning terms to refer to public figures with whom they disagree. My observation is that it does nothing to impress me of the effective use of their intellect and it immediately alienates anyone who identifies with the other side. That is to say that it renders whatever argument they present as entirely useless.

I merely found it clever and was looking for more of the same. Since you and evidently others feel different then I apologise for my Insensitivity. I did specify no crude or personal submissions (happened anyway). I do find it odd that reading the hate filled political and racist stuff I find here daily, anyone would consider it objectionable. Sorry. And BTW neologism does not equate to hate or insults. Foreploy (v): Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period. Giraffiti (n): Vandalism spray-painted very, very high. Inoculatte (v): To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. Hipatitis (n): Terminal coolness Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you. Glibido (v): All talk and no action. Dopeler effect (n): The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.

That is to say that it renders whatever argument they present as entirely useless. Actually I did not find it offensive just as I didn't find libatard offensive. Ci_Borg, speaking for myself I didn't find your post offensive. To me though those kind of play on words just devolve into crap that serves no purpose other than to jab the "other" guys. I hope you see that "Teanderthal" was only going to piss off people who identify with the Tea Party ? And you are correct there is hateful stuff on here almost everyday. No sense playing into their hands.

Back to the original topic, good term from a recent Bill Whittle video for these whining PC social justice warriors shutting down the speech of anyone that remotely disagrees with them:
Crybullies.
