After raising my two children and being involved with raising three of Judy's, It is clear to me that a child remains basically psychotic until the age of thirty.
We need to raise the voting age to thirty. A few years of living as an adult making ones own decisions and dealing with the consequences would make a better voter.

You don't also want to raise the minimum age of soldiers and sailors to 30 do you ? I'd say your brainstorm was more like a little bitty cloud that didn't produce any rain at all.

Mandatory service for a min of 2 years, men and women, voting permitted after successfully completing 2 years. If you get some kind of waiver to avoid service.....you shouldn't be permitted to vote for the CINC at all.

Add to this, anyone on two continuous years of public assistance (except truly physically 100% disabled), loses the right to vote.... until they enter school, vocational training, or the workforce.
In other words, disenfranchise the (perpetual) Free crap Army (as much as possible).
Stop dead people and illegals from voting too.
Require ID and proof of eligibility to vote.
Any state that enfranchises illegals to vote loses all federal assistance.

Couple ideas I would consider
-Must be a land owner to vote. -Must not receive government money. -Must pass basic current events test.

Here's another..... out of federal money, offer each eligible voter $50 to NOT vote. If $50 is worth more to you than your vote, you don't need to vote.

Serk, you realize you just eliminated anyone receiving Social Security? I suggest it is very simple to solve the voting issue. Do you pay income taxes or did you pay income taxes prior to reaching retirement age?

If I could opt out right now and forfeit all the money they've already stolen from me I'd do it in a heartbeat. ...but that's another rant. But yeah, I'd be okay with your idea until we're able to get SS removed.

You just hit a sore spot with me. Social Security FOR ME, is NOT an entitlement. I paid into it for 47 years and received nothing back until I retired. I also think that the prime requisite for voting is the test that LEGAL immigrants must take to establish citizenship. That would eliminate illegals and arseholes smart enough to live on the dole but too dumb to learn anything other than their name. On yet another note, keep in mind the kids who are going to college and get fubab over chalk marks about Trump could be the same ones who might become officers if there is a Draft. Of course that excludes the ones who would head for Canada. I think that if we are going to bitch we might as well go whole hog!

And last time I checked the SS Administration is a federal government agency.

And yes I believe you are correct about it being a govt. agency. Some can't grasp the concept that it doesn't go into their own account and collect interest and earnings.

I like it, thirty years old or 2 successful years of military service, then you can vote. Yes I really think the majority of today's teens have no business voting.

You are correct. I also get a lovely extra tax called the self-employment tax on top of paying for unemployment insurance that I am ineligible to receive. That is only part of the cost of doing business and some wonder why small businesses fail.

There's SOME wisdom there.
Yes I can agree with 2-3 years of successful service (doesn't need to be military - my father-in-law was a C.O. for religous reasons, but he did a couple years of something in lieu of military service while others were drafted)
Some of those others - landowner, - no - I know too many who are good citizens otherwise
No WELFARE to vote - sounds good
CUrrent Events - also sounds good.( nothing like ignorant voters voting).
Raising the voting age - well - the couple years of service would do that.

I have a bit of news for you. As a self-employed accountant I can tell you positively that everybody that pays into the SS system pays the same amount, within reason of course. When an employer hires someone they know that 7.65% of the amount that they pay to the employee has to be added to the cost of employment to pay the employer portion of the tax. Therefore the minimum cost of an employee is 107.65% of the pay scale. Does it really matter how the cost is paid in or just the fact that it IS paid in to either party. Both parts are the cost of doing business in hiring or sel-employed.

I understand the point, and do not begrudge those who collect social security, but it is a ponzi scheme, and I would dearly love to be able to opt out of it. At 44 I am not counting on it to be there when I need it, and am handling my retirement planning accordingly, just wish I could use the money the government steals from me every paycheck to add to my real retirement funding instead.
