Just got back from seeing Jethro Tull in Indy. My youngest son Andy and I went with a couple of friends.

Truly an amazing band. The first half was a little slow but it was cursed amusing for me as I looked around at the mostly white haired audience (like me) and conjured up an image of us all 40 years ago.  2funny

The 2nd half of the show was awesome. In particular "locomotive Breath". Before you knew it, a theater full of white hairs with a few youngsters thrown in was on their feet, stomping their feet, clapping their hands, bobbing their heads and shouting for joy.

Ian Anderson has sadly lost some of his voice but his musicianship is better than ever and the stage show and videos playing behind the band were terrific. He had a couple of other singers playing via the videos to help him along with the vocals. His flute sounded better than ever. That and the heart he put into it more than made up for the years of wear and tear on his nearly 70 year-old rock and roll voice.

Absolutely a bucket list band that I had somehow missed when I was younger. For a while there when we were all on our feet it seemed that 40 years had fallen away from me and I know I wasn't the only one feeling that way, as was evident just by looking around. If they are touring near you, it would be well worth your time to see them.

Glad you enjoyed it and glad the sound was good. Used to be one of my favorite groups. Every once in awhile I will listen to some of their songs. He did a Christmas song which I also listen to occasionally that I really like.

I believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake - Ian Anderson

Going to see Genesis (revisited) with original guitarist Steve Hackett this Friday Night sitting 4th center.
I manage the facilities at a Performing arts hall that has 1844 seats and we have bands and crowds exactally like you described. But hey this is still the best music ever to me. The Genesis show is not at my place this time so it will be interesting to look at a different theater.   cooldude JT would be one I would like to see.   cooldude

We went to see Jethro Tull in Atlanta somewhere around
20 or 30 years ago... I think that was the time we went
to Atlanta for a concert and there was a baseball game
or something going on too... the subway was super
crowded and backed up when we were leaving... pretty
soon all the people on one side of the turnstile were
shouting in unison "TASTES GREAT!" and the people
on the other side were shouting "LESS FILLING!"...
made me feel pretty good about Atlanta...

I was a bonafide Genesis Freak in my younger years.  I saw the original Genesis perform the Foxtrot Album in its entirety........one of the best show I've ever seen and I've seen quite a few being from theNY/NJ metro area.  "Watcher of the Skies .....watcher of all"

Glad you had a great time at Jethro Tull.  Saw the band sometime in the 70's, just forget the venue, probably Saginaw or Pine Knob, Mich.  It is great seeing these old rockers from our youth either again or for the first time.  The memories they evoke are priceless and sometimes just hearing a particular song will put one back forty years or more to a wonderful moment in time.  Memories are a precious tool us humans have - wonder if this is also evident in some other highly evolved life forms like dogs, whales, etc.  2 years ago I got to see Bob Seger In Dayton in spring and  brother Ted in the fall. You could tell Bob had lost just a little edge off his voice.   Last year we were going to see the Eagles, but the wife took a different position in the Hospital and it fell through.  Was sure it would happen in a year or two instead and now with the passing of Glenn Frey it will be lost.
This August Chicago is coming to our Great Darke County Fair and their is a whole group of us white hairs ( my new favorite hair color )  going to bring back some pleasant memories of our youth and start some new ones.

I remember when JT beat out Metallica,  AC/DC, and Jane's Additction for best hard rock/metal grammy.  As a teenager, I was floored... Jethro who the flute?!

Even though I didn't agree with it, I did look into the band anyway and Thick as a Brick brought me back to Pink Floyd,  Led Zep, Stepwolf and all the great album masters of the time just before mine.

Although not my music of choice,  jethro tull was a huge fan of my high school teacher/weightlifter counterpart in high school in the late 80's.  He loved that band although was a tad before my time.  He would crank JT on my boom box and jam out while we both lifted weights loving it while I thought it was o.k., I preferred my 80's rocknroll music.  It was out there for sure.

I was and still am a fan of Jethro Tull, but I too was very thrown off by that... That was the year I fully decided "The Grannys" were completely and irrevocably irrelevant...

I loved those ballads he sung, the flute.

We had the album, Songs from the woods. Would listen to it over and over for hours.

Jethro Tull releases Stand Up in 1969. Included in the tracks is Bouree, written by a little known songwriter named Johann Sebastian Bach, arranged by Ian Anderson. It is still one of my favorites!

Tull was my very first concert. I believe 1975. Cincinnati Coliseum. I remember going to the restroom during intermission and someone came through hawking drugs in the same manner as beer vendors at Riverfront Stadium: "brownies, greenies, red ones, we've got your little ones, anything you need" something like that.

My next concert was John Denver. Same venue, but not that you would have noticed.

Time does pass. The last time I'd went to a concert with the lady who invited us to this one was sometime in the early 70's to see Montrose, Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie in Terre Haute. That was another great one but I think I appreciated this one more.

There's a lot to be said for enjoying good Rock and Roll with family and lifetime friends.

The last time we saw JT was in Jacksonville Fl about 16 years ago. He got booed and people were shouting "play something we know" A lot of people left. He was pushing his new album so hard he lost his audience.

Worst performance I ever saw him do.
