Allright fellas,

I have a stock 99 standard and am looking to upgrade a few things before WV to make the lady look nice and ride more comfortably. Not trying to break the bank so I would be looking for something that was highly impactful yet reasonably priced. She has new tires and a new 19" clear view shield as well as hard bags. No highway pegs or boards. Hoping some of you valk veterans can throw me some ideas of items that really made a difference in your rides.

Feel free to attach a link to the specific product if it's something you really recommend. Thanks

Basics are Kuryakyn Transmission covers found still on evil bay and engine hangers (I prefer the Honda reproduction ones) from Carolina Bike and Trike. Better seat Etc etc etc.

Look nice = endless possibilities, all it takes is $$$$ Cool

Comfortable = Baker air wings, highway pegs, Ultimate seat W/backrest (or pad and backrest for the OEM seat), throttle lock, and some chick to ride.  Um, with you. Wink

You're gonna get a lot of different opinions here  Cheesy ... You've listed stuff I like
as important, so here's my opinion...

Get some highway pegs, put them somewhere they won't drag (Kuryakyn
is good about warning you about dangerous positions to mount them in),
and stay away from boards if you want to ride in the mountains without
them scraping in every corner.

Do you still have an OEM seat? Get an Ultimate (or Corbin) seat if you can,
with a back rest. If that$ too much, get a newer OEM seat (they improved
the seats in 2000) and there's a bunch of $70 or so eBay Valkyrie backrests
that are probably OK.

Stay away from covers and non-functional bling that gets in the way
when you need to work on your bike... spend money on stuff that
makes your riding experience better  cooldude

Agree with others on Baker Air Wings, look good and work better.
Triple tip exhaust tips - look awesome, almost no increase in sound, no performance increase.
Buy a bag of 100 chrome buttons from a leather store and stud your own seat and backrest.
Move the rear view mirrors from the handlebars to the windshield by drilling one hole each.
Install Interstate carb springs for slightly improved throttle response.

Nothing like a cold beverage when you are parched.  Left hand drink holder with an insulated push button lid drink container.

LED lights to see and be seen.  LED brake light (Radiantz).

Bluetooth in helmet iffn ya like music.  GPS, don't depend on it but sure can be handy.

Agree on Baker Wings.

Voltmeter to keep an eye on electical system.

Heated gear for frosty mornings and early spring/late fall riding.

Comfy seat!

Forgive my humble opinion, but, the one and only modification that has ever made any sense to me is...

Adding a Supercharger.

No if, ands, or butts about it! This will make you stand out at any Valkyrie event, MC gathering, anywhere you go, no matter what! When you start the bake up and hear the whine of that blower and the surge of the motor at idle. Almost nothing like it.

And you've had two of the nicest bikes w/blowers that I know of. Of course, the custom paint jobs didn't hurt either. However, it sounded like cost was a major factor in which mods he would like to install. That "might" rule out a supercharger. But then again, what do I know? Wink

Thanks for the compliment. I did not seem to me that there was a price limit so go for broke I say! If there is a limit on what can be spent for modifications I am happy to change  my suggestions accordingly. Lets say $500.  I would do a Utopia drivers backrest, Rattlebars heel toe shifter with lowering kit, Kury highway pegs, and a cup holder from Frank Smoak. Not necessarily in that order but certainly those items.

Just the one I am using. Most of the stuff I have left I am keeping for the Interstate. If I did have one it went to misfit last memorial day.

Comfort features first....

- Baker Air Wings for air flow management.  Love em.
- Comfortsble seat.  Even a newer model 2000 year stock seat is great and less expensive than aftermarket.  About 80 bucks or so.
- Risers if needed or softer, bigger or heated grips if you prefer.
- Highway pegs, boards or the like.
- Cup or beverage holder.

Function features second....

- Depending on use of bike, maybe luggage carriers, racks, etc.
- Better lighting for visibility or to be seen.

Safety

- Safety Chrome, as much as you like and can afford.
- Safety LED show lights
- Safety leather do dads.

Your bike...make it like ya want it and have fun doing it, and riding it.   cooldude

Personally, I like a modulating headlight. Mine is LED. Let's people see you.
I am sure that others may disagree.

The three things I've added I would NOT go around the block WITHOUT! Utopia backrest-sheepskin on the seat-one inch risers. Mine came with Kury road pegs. I also added a throttle paddle. These old arthritic bones also appreciated the wider clutch and brake levers I installed. IF I had Baker air wings I'd like em as much as everyone else that has them do. BUT anything that is added can be very subjective. Good luck and TRUST me when I say you WILL be digging deeper in the ole wallet than you originally meant to!  Roll Eyes  2funny RIDE SAFE.

barefoot willie cup holders on the handlebars 20 bucks each guaranteed for life

hwy. pegs upfront - I just picked up 2 pair 1/2 off locally on craigslist about 75 bucks each vs. 135 or 200 new depending on kuryakyn model

windshield of some sort if you don't have one is a must

I do like my sheepskin seat cover and driver backrest as well.

I am into function and comfort over looking cool.

Baker air wings are nice, but pricey, but am sure worth it - is on my wish list.

Where do you find modulator components for LED lights?

Now that is hard, especially without more info. You didn't really mention you like safety Chrome, or...?

I figured I would buy safety items before I bought other items I want. So a headlight modulator, and a brake light modulator (hyper lite). You need to be seen to stay safe. Maybe running lights too.

Then a nicer seat for longer rides. I like traveling, so 6 hours + is something to think about.

Something unique, to make the ride your own, and different from the rest, a paint job.
