I have a 35 year old Skil 7 inch angle grinder. Had a bearing go out yesterday. I measured the bearing as 8mm ID, 22mm OD, and 7mm wide. I looked at the Grainger web site and found 5 matching that size. They are all radial ball bearings (it was a ball bearing that failed). Choices include shielded, double shielded, sealed, double sealed, steel or chrome steel, etc. I'm not sure what the differences are. I actually assume any would likely work. The prices run from $9 to $13 dollars, but shipping is $11, so will probably order from somewhere else.

Any input would be appreciated. Photos below show the location of the failed bearing and comparison from Grainger (if you can read the print that small).

TIA.

So you want Double shielded because of the atmosphere it runs in ( grinding dust). My preference would be  a Steel double shielded. I'm pretty sure the bearing number will have a "ZZ" after the number which means 2 steel shields. Hope this helps

It does help. That is exactly the information I am looking for. I do not know why double shielded is "tighter" than sealed or double sealed, but I will take your word for it.

That location requires a "sealed bearing", the grease is sealed in from the factory and will not sling out into the windings.

608ZZC3/EM

$8.00 at Amazon

Or this one for only $4.37

Maybe this will help; a sealed bearing is pre greased from the factory, it keeps the grease in and moisture/debri out. The shields on a set of bearings only keeps out debri. A sealed bearing is better for your application.

Any of the shielded bearings will do since its got the grease sealed in and there is not really a big load on it.
