Hey All, Been Darkside for about 3 years and have 20K plus on the tire and still looks good... However... last fall, I got a puncture at 60MPH ( Shook like a dogs crapping razor blades- I managed to keep my drawers clean).... all went well and plugged the tire to get me home.... many on here say it should be all good, but I don't really trust it and I did get over 20k, so I'm going to replace it... Heres the bad part... I go online to get a Yoko Avid Envigor 205 60 16, Looked around and found it on Discount Tires Online for $89 with free shipping... go thru the order process, put in all the crap they want.. but they asked for what kind of vehicle it was going on... so I just put my current car a 2015 Dodge Journey ( I wasn't going to tell them it was for a bike and figured no big deal)... so order goes thru and start waiting for it to show up... Then I get an Email from them telling me to call because there is a problem with my order.... SOOOO...... I call and get to talk to a sales guy who tells me that its a non standard tire for that car and he needs to confirm the size before they can complete the order... So I tell him that it has after market wheels and I just need to get one tire to match whats already on there.... He then tells me that the tire and size I want are not load rated for that vehicle and he will not sell me that tire!?!?!?..... I say what business is it f yours if I want to buy a tire!?!? He says because of liability he cannot sell me that tire, only what is rated for that vehicle.... I get testy and even then he said "Sorry I cannot sell you that tire"... I then tell him to cancel the order and hang up.... nothing was charged to card so no worries. I then go to the next choice, Tire Rack, and go through the same thing... along with standard address and card info they ALSO want make and model of car.... But I planned ahead and found that a 08' Chevy Cobalt used a 205 55 16 and put that in as the model and ordered the 60 series..... confirm my order and send it along.... but for $4 more overall $93 bucks, but at this point I am not going back to Discount Freakin' Tire for $4..... 10 minutes later, I get an email for a Tire Rack salesman saying he needs to talk to me about the size as it is a "NON STANDARD" Size for that vehicle and he needs to confirm my order..... WTF!!!!!! I just want to buy a G' cursed tire!!! SO I call HIM and get the same spiel.... not the correct tire for the vehicle.... I told him that was what was on the car and wanted to match.. he was polite and said no problem we will get it right out..... guess it was close enough... Its already shipped... In the past I have put different size tires on cars for a better look and handling.. but that was a while ago So the moral of this story is that they now seem to be checking where the tires are going and most likely will also be doing the same thing at the brick and mortar Stores... I went into Discount Tire to buy the Falken I'm on now last time and even told the guy it was going on a motorcycle.. he laughed and said it must be a Big Bike! Not only is it getting hard to find someone to mount the damn thing, but now its a hassle to even BUY the friggin thing!!! All Darksiders be warned!!!! Big Brother Tire Mut%r F'rs are after US!!!!! If you think that's bad, just try to get Discount Tire to put a pair of new tires on the front of your car instead of on the rear...

Stopped in to buy a tire for my Valkyrie, but told them I wanted 205 55 16. They had many in stock. Guy at the counter asks what kind of vehicle. " Honda". What model? " Valkyrie" Honda doesn't make a Valkyrie. " That's true, but they used to" No they didn't. " Do you sell tires here? I'd like to buy one" You have to tell us what its for. " For a tire swing". All three idiots start arguing first it was not safe, then it just was not possible. Then they started yelling they wouldn't mount it. " Look, no one asked you to mount anything. I walked in here to buy a tire. DO you sell tires? It says "TIRE" on the sign outside...". Three morons behind the counter proceed to get all lathered up over each other. Eventually I get tired of making fun of them and walked out laughing. Told them I would never spend a dime in their store. But I have been back. They have an air hose laying there ont the parking area with a nice psi gauge that I stop and use on occasion. I make sure the see me and my Honda Valkyrie car tire I purchased elsewhere. So far, I have been lucky. Small town Honda dealer, no trouble mounting a car tire. I tell my local farm supply store what tires I want, in what size, they order them and give them to me.
So far.......
But, this Big Brother crap is just going to keep getting worse. Liberalism has to stick its nose into everything, and make sure I only do what is good for me.
I am becoming more and more a Libertarian the older I get. Personal responsibility. If I die a "Flaming Death: due to a car tire on my Valkyrie, it is MY PROBLEM. I CHOSE IT. I AM RESPONSIBLE.
If you do not have the freedom to make BAD choices, you have no freedom at all.

I would have just told the tire place the truth I am buying a tire for a cycle and doing it myself. If they say no, tell them to F off and go elsewhere. What difference does it make on what size tire you get, a sale is a sale, especially if not getting the tire mounted there.
I had a tad bit of a pissing match with a tires plus store where I bought my snow tires from last week. I made an appt. at 4:45 p.m. to take them off and put on my OEM non-winter tires each on their own rims. So, basically a tire rotation and was free for life of snow tires since I bought them there and had them mounted/balance there.
Well, I get there at 4:40 p.m., get it into the shop right around 4:45 p.m.. The car sits in the shop NOT doing a damn thing to it for 25 minutes until 5:15 p.m. since can see in their viewing window not doing anything to it. I comment to the service guy at the counter what is taking so long been 25 minutes and not done yet with nothing done at all? 2-3 minutes later he goes back there am sure telling them to snap to it customer is waiting. He returns to tell me they are doing tire rotation right away FINALLY. After they start, I ask to make sure they are putting my rotation as instructed and marked on tires with chalk since don't want what was prior the front tires still on front of a FWD car making it perfectly clear to them. He assured me they will do it right but I said I still want to see in person. Guess what, the boozos had already the front tires put on the front not the back - IDIOTS. After that fiasco, I was outta there in less than 10 minutes time taking a total of 1 hour to do a 15-20 minute tire rotation.

Never had a problem buying or finding someone to mount them. I used Tire Rack three times for Car Tires. I never used the "vehicle search" maybe that triggered this? I just typed in the tire size I wanted...205/60/16 and ordered, no questions asked??? My local Honda shop mounted my first one, (laughing) and said they do it all the time for the Gold Wing boys. They didn't recommend it, but did it.

Maybe a Trike guy will know.... but all trikes run car tires in back.... legally, morally, spiritually and safely.
Will (does) a valk trike take a 205 60/55/65?
If the answer is yes, we all have Valk trikes..... and we only need one for a backup right now, the two on there have 20K more miles, easy.
I am also curious what they do if you just tell them you refuse to answer any questions about the tire.... hey it's to keep my boat from rubbing the dock OK. It's a new boat, so I want new dock bumpers.

I've bought Avid Envigors from Discount Tire. The first time they questioned me about it and they said they couldn't mount it for me. No problem I do it myself. The second time they didn't say a word. The next tire I got from them was a Yokohama Avid Ascend 195/60. They asked is this for the motorcycle? Yep. No problems. It's probably up to each manager, they kind of feel like feudal lords sometimes. I also purchased a Nexen from an independent tire shop. They never asked any questions at all.

I just bought a Kuhmo 195/60 from Tire Rack, never had a problem with identifying the car. I searched for it by size, not car model, and picked the one I wanted. Three days later it was on my front porch. Less than 10mm difference in tread from the 205, has nice rounded shoulders and rides like a wide m/c tire. Put 3 oz. of beads in it and it rides smooth as silk with no weights whatsoever.

I went to walmart to get tires for my F150 XLT. They had my size but only 3 of them. OK I'll shop some where else. A few days later I was at Walmart again and asked about the tires and got the same ans. 2 in the shop and one in the store rack. I found one more on display. Ok they had them and I took the truck out back to have them installed, $85 each with Balancing. Good right? Nope. They can't put them on my truck because it's a heavy duty and the tires are not rated HD. They can't be liable for a blowout. I got my tires from Discount tire the same place I've always bought my darkside tire for my Valk.

After 5 years and 35K miles my GATT was finally rounded off pretty well. While doing the rear end, shocks, etc. I have opted to try the Austone tire this time. And so my saga began... Purchase; Amazon, no issue Mounting; My local (Aurora Honda) guys originally said on the phone they would do it. I took them the new tire and the old tire wheel. I had already ordered / purchased the bearings, seals, and Orings from them in good faith also. The shop took the bearings and the tires, we wrote it all up and I walked out. While getting into my car, the shop guy runs out and tells me there is a problem......You guessed it....Its a car tire and they can't mount it. I was a visibly pissed. I have given them lots of business over the years, and they know my name! They offered to install the bearings and seals at no charge, I let them. I picked the things up the next day. My old Big O had no issue switching out the tire. They even remembered putting the old one on. They did the switch for free. Big O in Parker Colorado is a great place to do business with. :cooldude:They could not balance the wheel...something about the size of their spindles. Balancing; Called Aurora Honda....Asked if they could balance my wheel.....hold for a minute....You have a car tire on it?...Yes, I do......We can not help you. So I called Performance Cycle at their new super store in south Denver. Let them know what I was doing....no problem bring it in. I took them my wheel with the Austone, and we arrived at a price of $10 to do just a balance ($25 is mount and balance). They did the work while I shopped, they took the thing out and loaded it for me. This was 5 days before their grand opening. Their reward was me buying $900 in new helmets and two Bluetooth headsets for my Goldwing. Oh and they will also get my business for the future. Aurora Honda said it themselves...They can not help me. I won't even ask anymore. Went over to Fay Meyers looking for bike #3....Black standard with 18K for $6k....maybe....I did buy some brake pads for the valk from them though, they stocked them. I typically buy parts online but I do like to help keep local shops in business. So I spread things around.

We originally tried to get our local yamaha shop to mount our car tires. Asked the owner if he would do it. He then said you are stupid for using a car tire. I said excuse me, then he repeated it. I asked if he had any experience riding on a car tire. Of course he did not. I told him he was stupid for saying such a stupid thing when he has no experience with it. I was then asked to leave their shop. rainman now mounts my tires for me on his machine.

Yeah, I noticed Discount tire has been getting quite finicky last few years around here too.
I needed 4 wheels on a trailer balanced so I took it to the local Discount tire. The guy looked at the dates on the tires and said they could only balance two of them as the other two are too old. (did I mention they were on a trailer?) Of course they were more than willing to sell me two new tires!! (balancing included) No thanks.
I ran down to an independent tire guy down the street and he balanced all four with out blinking an eye!

The only problem I've ran into getting my tires from OK tire was that they wanted to mount them. They were determined to upsell me the installation and balancing, until I told them that I had asked them to do that when I ordered them and I was told that they couldn't. Sales person got all upset wanting to know who I was talking to, they could mount whatever I needed, etc, etc. Ok, I'll bring you the rim and you can mount it, then I told them what it was for. She went and talked to a tech, and sure enough they weren't able to mount it but there was no arguing or lecturing about it. I went back in a year later and ordered a new tire for a different Valkyrie, and 3 new tires for my sisters Spyder. They asked some questions when I ordered 1 Yokahoma and 3 general tires in 3 different sizes. Now they remember me on sight. lol.

I told Tire Rack I was making a coffee table out of it! ;-) No trouble after that!
