I know we have a lot on the board. How much of this is true or is it the invaders are just working for less?

It is sad but true, life on the road is anything but glamorous and try to find anybody from todays generation of youngsters that wants to work hard, or work period. I am not over the road anymore luckily I drive locally  but when I do stop at a truck stop it is amazing how many foreigners are there. The trucking industry is hurting for drivers and if a guy wants to live in a truck he can make some decent money. I don't think these invaders are driving for less, they are just willing to do the job.

Over the road trucking IS a solitary life. I've been away from it a bit over 7 years. BUT the influx of foreign drivers had started long before I retired. Most-not all but most of them have a hard time with the English language. Made me and other drivers wonder HOW they got their C D Ls as English is Supposed to be used herein the U S of A. Some of those "drivers" could barely read English much less converse in English. And had I NOT seen this happen-MORE than once-I wouldn't believe it either. They would rather run something over or damage something than ask for help backing in. In a really tight area in California years back I tried to explain to a dud(NOT mispelled-i meant DUD) wearing a turban WHY he should slide his trailer tandems forward. He had them stretched all the way out on a 53 footer. The further forward your tandems are on the trailer the shorter the wheelbase and the easier to maneuver your unit. Later on he had the ballz to ask me to help him slide those tandems. After basically telling me to mind my own efin business!  uglystupid2 I don't envision a lot of young people taking on this job and staying. Takes a mind set to put up with the deprivation. What modern society and modern economy CAN NOT do-live with out Trucks!  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

Dennis is spot on.  Tough life on the road. Lots of foreign drivers.  Like him, I am PO'd when a driver can't speak enough English to talk to the fuel clerk, yet is required to have working knowledge of English to be a commercial driver!

Yah I have seen these foreigners at my largest account come into the shipping office for details and can not speak English.  Just blows my mind.  Usually they are headed to the Texas border towns as Honda has some traffic going to Mexico.

Now for the future.  It will not matter what language.  I caught a tidbit on radio last night upon waking for a moment.  In Europe they ran a convoy of trucks across the continent.  They were driver less.  Thus eliminating 50 to 75 percent of the cost of a cross continent truck.   That my friends will be the future of Trucking sometime in the future.

Maybe maybe not. Years ago-70s?-they came up with a tractor called a cab under. The whole power unit fit UNDER the front of the trailer and you had less vision than a sports car of the time. I saw one briefly and knew then-NO EFFIN WAY EVER. The union-remember those-shot that entire concept down. I realize they have auto pilot on commercial aircraft-BUT there is a live functioning human right there I case the puter goes tits up. RIDE SAFE.

Thanks Paul-ZACKLY what I was on about. Talked with a guy that had driven one and he was of a mind a baby carriage would throw it's spray on THAT thing's windshield.  2funny RIDE SAFE.
