Those of you who know me personally may remember I have a four year-old Grandson named Ryder whose Dad (Andy) is also a VRCC member and Valk rider. Andy has gotten pretty heavily involved in off-road bicycling in the past few years as have his two kids and my two oldest Grandsons. They've all spent many weekends building and riding trails in the local off-road bike parks.

Andy and his family live in the woods and have built bicycle trails through most of their property. They have a flat oval for Ryder and his brother and a crazy, hills & hollers trail Andy uses. Part of that trail is a 18" diameter tree which has fallen across a wide, muddy holler. Andy has chainsawed a flat on the up side of the tree and incorporated it into his trail as a 10' tall bicycle bridge spanning the muddy holler.

The boys were again playing some kind of tag on the log after being told not to when Andy spotted them. Just as he saw them Ryder tryed to reverse directions as he ran across the log, lost his balance and fell head first off the log and out of sight. Andy raced up fearing the worst and found Ryder on his chest in the mud with his arms completely buried in it and barely holding his head back out of the mud. Andy ran out, picked him up, washed the mud off his face with a bottle of water and hurriedly asked him if he was OK.

Ryder's response was "I'm OK and at least I stuck the landing!"

Guess the apple don't fall far from the tree.

For anyone that's interested. Here is a story about the local bike park Andy and my Grandsons volunteer at frequently.

The park has been spearheaded by a local family in honor of their son who lost his life defending ours overseas. This is a world class park which will probably be hosting some huge events in the next few years. I've walked some of their trails, many I could not begin to walk on but would have loved to ride off-road motorcycles on back in the day. They're putting in narrow, floating bridges in some areas I think. There are bicycle teeter-toters, crazy steep hills and steep banked berms on fast corners.

You Hoosiers got it going on.

God bless Dale Griffin, RIP.

Heard about it when I was young assuming it's the same place. Always wanted to go there when I had dirt bikes but never made it.
