Billboard Companies Reject Atheists’ Anti-Christian Ad

http://www.breitbart.com/pr...s-anti-christian-ad/

Two billboard companies are turning down an ad from an atheist group that is challenging the opening of a Christian-themed amusement park in Kentucky.

Lamar and Event Advertising and Promotions LLC have both rejected the advertisement from the Tri-State Freethinkers.

The Freethinkers launched an IndieGoGo campaign to fund its billboard that the group hoped would challenge the slated July opening of Ark Encounter, a 510-foot wooden ship constructed in the likeness of the ark from the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament. Ark Encounter is being built by Answers in Genesis, the owner of the Creation Museum, which is led by Ken Ham.

The atheists’ group – led by president Jim Helton – raised $10,000 for the billboard, says the Associated Press. The ad depicts Noah’s ark, surrounded by drowning people, and the words, “Genocide and Incest Park: Celebrating 2,000 years of myths.”

“The replica of Noah’s Ark is the newest project by Answers in Genesis to promote creationism,” say the Freethinkers, adding:

While they have a legal right to celebrate their mythology, we find it immoral and highly inappropriate as family entertainment. In addition, the park is receiving state tax incentives despite discriminatory hiring practices. For these reasons, we have created this campaign to raise awareness in our communities.

The Freethinkers offer a special deal for contributions of $500: “Your picture can be on the billboard drowning in the ocean!”

Ham called the atheists’ billboard campaign an attack on Christianity.

“The billboards disparaged and misrepresented not only the Ark Encounter but also the God of the Bible,” he said.

Helton says the group will attempt to erect the billboard outside of Kentucky.

“If we find a company willing to put up our billboard, we are willing to allow other organizations to use our billboard to show their opposition to the Ark Encounter and to promote their local groups,” he said in a press release. “We are in the early stages of trying to put together a protest on July 7, which is opening day and an after party to celebrate science and reason.”

Should be an interesting summer.

I'm a "Freethinker" (Although I find most formal "Freethinker" groups are just fronts for extreme communist/liberal/Democrat (Is there really any difference in the 3 anymore?) groups and thus avoid them) that gets laid pretty often for a married guy.

But really guys, posts like this give "us" the exact kind of advertising "we" never would have gotten had they just put the stupid billboards up in the first place...

Obviously a liberal group.  Intolerant of anyone's views but their's.  If you don't believe/agree with the theme of the park, don't go there.  But no, in their view there can be no park that doesn't buy into their views.  This was once a free country, where you could make up your own mind andhave your own opinions.  The libs want to change that, for your own good of course!

Dear Atheists:  Keep it up, insult and debase Christianity all you want.  Call us as many names as possible.  But, when we restart the Crusades, payback is gonna be a b*tch. (yes, this is a joke).

I'm doing my part to correct that equation... (Of course, I'd also never use mine against a religious person purely because of their religion either.) Wink
Actually, I've met quite a few VERY heavily armed Atheists/Agnostics.

I'm curious why you all equate Atheists to Liberals ?  ???

I've unfortunately noticed the same, it seems if one is a non-theist, it's automatically assumed they're also a communist. I've found it rather interesting that I've gotten more acceptance as an Atheist among conservatives than I have as a conservative among Atheists... I've been asked to leave or voluntary left many "freethinker" groups because of my political stances.

It seems, partially because of the assumption that Atheist = Communist many non-communist Atheists tend to stay quiet, or maybe those of us non-theists who fall to the right of the political spectrum don't feel the need to trumpet our lack of beliefs every 20 seconds, so we appear to be smaller in number than we actually are... but we're out here, I assure you.

Of course, when the Democrat party boos God from the floor of their convention, that doesn't help remove the stigma of Atheist = liberal either...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUJE9YfsbNQ

I've also found it very interesting how many Atheists/Agnostics have thrown off the chains of religious subordination just to replace them with worshiping another god instead, the government.

I am afraid you are just replacing the stereotype with an alternate stereotype.

Here's the thing about stereotypes... They usually come to be because there's at their heart at least a grain of truth to them.

But the numbers also back it up...

Few Facebook groups I'm in and their membership totals:

The Libertarian Atheist                                         21,357 members
Conservative Atheist Voice                                    235 members
The Conservative Atheist                                      279 members
American Atheists                                               362,051 members
Atheist/Free Thinker Tea Party                              540 members
Global Secular Humanist Movement (VERY left wing) 341,034 members
American Humanist Association (Also left wing)        568,605

So yeah... the numbers do unfortunately back up the stereotype of Atheist = Communist, much as I wish that weren't the case.

(I do find it interesting, and gives me a glimmer of hope for the future that there is a strong showing of us "Nones" in the libertarian movement though)

You'd be surprised... My meatspace experiences (Meatspace = real life) have backed up the Facebook numbers I presented. I've tried to find non-left wing Atheist/Agnostic groups to hang out with for years, and have been unsuccessful. I've joined many groups, both online and in meatspace and all of them have been VERY left wing, it's not just an online/Facebook phenomenon.

I do think there are more non-religious conservative/libertarian folks out there, I've found a few, but we're smaller in number (And MUCH quieter about our lack of beliefs too, in general.)

And it would be my solid expectation that those smaller numbers of atheist conservatives would quickly join forces with believing conservatives if the SHTF over increasingly totalitarian socialist rule.

Serk, your comment "Atheists/Agnostics have thrown off the chains of religious subordination just to replace them with worshiping another god instead"

I have been pondering on this as of late. From where I am sitting the new Doctrine here in the U.S. is Political Correctness. P.C. is the means to push an agenda, their agenda. It is literally their only leg to stand on. This is why they so aggressively push it. Furthermore the Bible is a threat to their agenda hence they will also aggressively push against it.

It is worth questioning the FreeTinkerer's however. Why are you so threatened to take such action against the "Myth's of the Bible"? Silly isn't it?

I know there are pro-gun liberals.  But, the percentage is much lower than pro gun conservatives.  And, almost to a man, those calling for much stricter gun laws, ARE Progressives.  Stereotypes?  Yep.  But, pretty accurate, at least on the macro level.

The ones I participated in we did things like clean up sections of the local road and clean up local parks, take our families to skating rinks for group socials, there's a high propensity to eat tacos in the group so we ended up at different taquerias and beer was very popular too, every few months a group would go volunteer together at a local homeless shelter, sometimes we'd all meet at a member's house for movie night and every 2nd Sunday after a full moon we would ritualistically slaughter and eat a Baptized baby. Wink

That's me 2nd from the right on one of the times we went out to clean our local adopted section of road.

The last time I looked, there were 7200 different gods and entities worshipped on planet earth. If you believe in one God, you're not much different than your average atheist. It's a free world, for the most part. Believe what you want, don't push your beliefs on others, and above all, don't be so egotistical that you think you are right.

Less broadly, atheism is the rejection of belief that any deities exist. In an even narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities

I do not understand how you can deny what you believe does not exist? Makes no sense to me,, but then again,, today a lot of stuff does not make sense.

It's a free world, for the most part. Believe what you want, don't push your beliefs on others, and above all, don't be so egotistical that you think you are right.
This is the essence of the philosophy of most atheists, the insistence that there is no absolute Truth, and that people who believe that there is should keep it to themselves.  If theists choose to proclaim what they believe to be true, they are accused of the highest crime of being self-righteous and egotistical.  Their definition of freedom is not freedom of expression, but freedom from expression of proclamations that contradict their atheism.

Faithful Christians are not self-righteous, but are beneficiaries of a foreign righteousness applied to their account.  They have found Truth, which makes them aware of their lack of righteousness.  They are motivated, not by the need for others to see them as righteous, but by the command of Christ to spread the Truth so that others may hear, believe, and also benefit from the foreign righteousness supplied by Christ himself.  This, naturally, is an irritant to those who see it as a challenge to their self-determination, and, ironically, self-righteousness.

I'm sure you're happy to know that the views of orthodox Christianity are getting less and less popular as the 21st century progresses, and as atheists' concept of freedom gets more and more popular.

G.R., one of the problems with that is there are many who call themselves Christians that deviate greatly from that. Which is what turns off many to organized religion. (A non atheist meathead)

It's unfortunate that I have to qualify the term "Christian" with the adjective "faithful".

I've always felt YOUR choices and beliefs are like a d&(k
Don't wave it around in public, and don't try to stuff it down my throat.

..., and above all, don't be so egotistical that you think you are right.

LOL!  I guess I'm one of those egotistical guys.  I always think I'm right because when I think I'm wrong I change my mind so I will be right.

What almost amuses me about the anti-Christian folks is that if a Christian dares to express his beliefs he's "ramming it down their throats" but when they express their own beliefs they are just practicing their rights.

As meathead has pointed out there certainly are a lot of people who claim to be Christian who do not actually live up to their supposed values.  Oh, wait, that would be true of atheists as well, wouldn't it?  I guess the ones I would tend to respect are true agnostics so long as they remain true to agnosticism.

Well now I'm really confused. If an Agnostic was to have vision from God and became a Christian. You would unrespect him ? (I know it's not really a word)

Well, yes, if an agnostic became a Christian and still claimed to be an agnostic I would lose respect for him (or her).  The rules, as I understand them, for agnostics is that they stick to a position indicating that they have seen no proof or simply have not seen enough evidence one way or the other to be certain.  It would be easy for one to claim to be an agnostic but to step over the line either way on what one is sure of.

I hope you'll forgive my use of the dangling preposition.  I put it there specifically for your benefit.   Wink
