I'm in!

The new fixture will arrive this Saturday. I should have had it shipped to Damon's house.  uglystupid2

Hell, I want one and I dont even have a standard or tourer  uglystupid2

If I am successful with the 7" Standard Fixtures maybe I can come with something for the interstate.
or just get a tourer headlight and then buy the tourer to fit it  Cheesy

I'm interested. Any chance that this unit can be shipped to The Netherlands?

I've given it some thought and I'm intrigued, put me down for one, I can't see crap once the sun goes down. All I ask is that this comes together real nice, is weather tight and is a true "plug and play system"

Fit and finish as well as quality performance in the overall unit is just as important.

I will get the headlight fixture this weekend (5-28-16) and will start fab'ing a prototype bracket. Beauty of this is the new fixture will sit in the "Rim" (the chrome piece that surrounds the headlight), and the bracket will mount the new LED Fixture to the Rim. With the new bracket you will still be able to adjust the headlight up/down, and left/right. The bracket will be on the back of the LED fixture, in the bucket and won't be seen. The current OEM headlight assembly is not weather tight. Currently there is a gap between the bulb reflector and the Rim which allows for adjustment of the headlight. The new LED fixture however is indeed a sealed unit and weather tight.

I am excited for this project, and have high hopes I will be able to make this work. I am glad to see it is building some interested.

Here is a youtube video of the difference between OEM, and the DayMaker.

Seems to me, this is a perfect opportunity to attend INZANE with a finished product.

Would be happy to show off your product off (assuming it'll fit into my already full bucket) or, if you make house calls, you are welcome to install and come along.   Wink

My goodness would that be awesome. Oh man showing up to InZane with DayMaker (mine will be the blue halo version) installed, along with the DayMaker LED running lights would really impress. I would have many, many ducks to get in a row to make a debut with workable units by mid June. I would say not possible as of right now, but am willing to work towards that goal.

Not the case, you only need two workable units, yours and mine.  The rest of the orders can be filled post INZANE.   Wink   cooldude

Good News!
 - I found my distributor! I like the company I ordered the DayMaker LED unit from. It was delivered a day early.  Grin
 - With just a rough fit up the DayMaker has plenty of room in the existing bucket (good call Willow cooldude)
 - I am going to feverishly work through the night to get a very rough bracket mockup made so I can show up to the Colorado Wrench Party tomorrow in a blaze of LED glory.  coolsmiley
 - Okay reality setting in. How the hell am I going to do this? Shocked

After getting the new headlight delivered a day early, I spent a long night creating a prototype adapter bracket. The bracket turned out great! I now have a concept that works, as well as something I can take to a fabricator. I debuted the DayMaker in my Valkyrie at the Colorado wrench party yesterday. It was well received with positive feedback. So I am now posting some pictures for you all to see.

Please note that you can purchase the DayMaker with different options. I got the Halo version which can have different colors. You can get one without the Halo.

Yes, I see that.   Doesn't answer my question though.

BTW, very colorful, cool looking and interesting.

* Pretty sure the Kentucky Highway Patrol would not like the Blue lights.   Most assuredly if they strobe or flash.   But, I kind of like that halo effect.   Is it only on the smaller driving lights or is it available on the big boy in the center?

The kit I am working on will only be for the 7" headlight (not the driving lights). Of the 7" headlight there are two round lights, the smaller is low beam and the larger high beam. The 2 rectangle lights on each side light up the sides of your path. When "ON" the low beam, and two side lights are always lite (3 lights). When high beam is on all four are lite. To directly answer your question they all work in harmony and can't say one is more focused than another.

OK, well I'm still #1 or 2 to display it at Inzane if you can get another one ready.     Won't charge ya too much to advertise and take orders.  Wink

Edited to ask:   Will you take personal checks?   Deposits?   Will this kit come complete or with just the adaptor ring?   For warranty purposes, will you be handling that or should the potential buyers go ahead and get their light from the "source" and then purchase  the kit (minus light) from you?  Should I be holding my breath?  Wink

All great questions that I intend on answering, but cannot at this time. I will answer your questions after I get a fabricator lined up and committed to making multiple units.

If you are interested in the Halo, please understand the the halo is wired seperately and can be turned on/off independent of the headlight light itself.

I have spoke with 2 different fabricators, who have come up with 2 different ideas for the adapter ring. I should have a prototype from each this week as well as their cost. Getting closer, stay tuned...

Hmm.  I note the George Bike has a VTX headlight already.  I just need to decide if the look is appropriate for that custom.  I haven't wrenched on it at all, and don't plan to, other than perhaps minor tweaks.  Yeah I know this doesn't help support your project if it already is available for the VTX.  But thanks for bringing it to my attention.  I have so many irons in the fire now that have been back burner too long. And now we have Inzane soon and prepping for it. I sure would like to see the light delivery produced by the Daymaker.  I have all the light I can use now on Jade and Deerslayer.  But not on George.  However it's not intended for cruising or much night riding.  Would have been totally inappropriate to bring for the Sunday ride which for us was well over 400 miles.  However, if it was licensed etc the ride to the BBQ would have been good.

Still interested and looking forward to getting this on my Valkyrie, my only caveat is, it must allow as much, if not more room for all that other wiring currently in my bucket.   If not at least as much room, it won't work for me.   Yeah, there's a lot of crap in there.

The DayMaker is as plug and play as it gets. It would be the easiest upgrade you can do. And it's not all about night time visibility. You will be more noticed during the day, and from my own opinion, and feedback at the BBQ it adds a much needed modern touch to the front of the bike. A face lift of sorts.

I have a couple more questions if you don't mind

1) what is the life span of the light?

2) if the light fails at some point is the bulb(s) replaceable? If so, is it something from Day Maker.

Thanks

1) 80,000 hours

2) It is a single sealed unit. The entire fixture would need to be replaced.

I know where you are going with this. I have always ridden with a spare headlight bulb. It isn't feasible to take a spare DayMaker along, but it should not be necessary with that long of a lifespan.

so just so we can be on the same page, in the event the Day maker stops working (for any reason) it can be replaced with a new fixture only.

if someone decides not to replace or needs to revert back to OEM application will that be possible?

from what I've read it sounds like none of the OEM parts will be modified to support this unit. is that correct?

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, I just need to ask.

thanks,

mike

Correct, you can only replace the entire fixture.  No permanent changes will be made to any OEM parts. Yes, the original OEM reflect can be put back in at any time. Additionally no electrical modifications are needed. I just put my OEM unit back in while the fabricator uses my prototype.

You are not being a pain at all, and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Progress?    angel

Made progress today. Ironing out details with the distributor. Working on fit and finish with the fabricator. I'm not promising dates yet, but things are progressing nicely.

So if the unit itself fails and a new one is needed, we would need to contact Day Maker for what, a stock sealed unit?

I am working with a distributor, who you will be buying the light through, as well as future lights.

Cool  cooldude cooldude

Just as reminder, INZANE is just around the corner, it would be a real shame if at least one bike there wasn't running this upgrade.   Just thought I'd mention that and, OBTW, I just happen to be going.   Wink

Halogen vs. DayMaker stats

Halogen
-Low Beam
 + 55 watts
 + 1100 Lumens
-High Bean
 + 60 watts
 + 1500 Lumens

DayMaker
-Low Beam
 + 45 watts
 + 2400 Lumens
-High Beam
 + 45 watts
 + 3600 Lumens

When simply putting an LED in the OEM Reflector, reports are saying the light is too scattered to gain any benefits.

The DayMaker is specifically designed as an LED Headlight. The light patterns have been designed to focus the light where you need it, drawing less power, and generating more light.

I know I'm teasing you with data. I have to do something with my time while I wait, otherwise I would jump out of my skin in anticipation.
