I just purchased a beautiful 1998 Valkyrie 1500 (non-touring model), all original in perfect showroom condition. I absolutely love this bike, but my lower back doesn't. Does anyone know where I can purchase a driver's backrest that fits the original seat? I found a few online that fit a Mustang seat, but I'd really prefer to keep the original seat as I find it very comfortable. The only problem is my poor old back! Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I can't believe you think a 98 stock seat is comfortable. 97-98 were the worst 99 and above much improved.

Buy a 2000 and up OEM front seat. Much more comfortable and affordable. If you think the 98 seat is comfortable then it is either already been upgraded to the newer one, or you just aren't riding enough.

How about pics of this "perfect" Valkyrie.

I can't believe you're even willing to ride to the mailbox without a
backrest  Wink

I put the despicably ugly OEM seat back on my 1800 yesterday. It has a Utopia
backrest, and the backrest is really nice. I haven't had the seat on since before
I got the handlebars on, and the OEM seat sits you a little more forward than
the Corbin seat. Being that little bit forward was nice, but the mushy OEM
seat's not so hot. I'll have to decide which seat to use for InZane, Corbin
promised to re-do the seat for me to match the new thicker backrest they sent
me (no extra cost for either), but it will take weeks...

Gee, sorry if I annoyed anyone by saying I found the stock seat comfortable! I've only been riding motorcycles for about 40 years so I guess I'm not too picky.  Thanks all and enjoy the holiday weekend.

I think you took their feedback the wrong way. Most here consider the early seats the most uncomfortable , they were just giving their opinion. Personally I'm not a fan of the '01 and later seats either.  cooldude

I just bought an '01 OEM seat for my 99. I hadn't heard of these backrests before. Do they look good and work well? It looks like it just bolts to the bottom of the seat pan....

They're the gold standard.

On my 1800, and I think on Tourers and STDs, the mounting bracket
goes inside the passenger seat, I had to take the cover off the passenger
seat and staple it back on. The instructions are good and the cover
went back on just fine. My stapler wasn't up to the task, I got a
Chinese pneumatic stapler from Harbor Freight, it worked great and
seemed to be of good quality for about $25.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have an OEM 1998 saddle.  I've never heard anyone describe one of them as comfortable.  Endurable is about as good as they get.

The Utopia bolts to the forward part of the rear fender. You have to remove the seat to mount it, no cutting of the seat cover involved. I found it to be one of the best on the market, the back is large enough to support you and is curved. Some backrests are quite small and fairly flat, simply doesn't give adequate support except in one rather small area of the back.

Well, after the glowing recommendations from those on the board, I ordered a Utopia backrest yesterday. When you go to their website, they show the next ship date. Yesterday it showed June 13, too late for Inzane. I called anyway and spoke with Linda. She couldn't have been more helpful. I explained my predicament and she spoke to the guys on the floor. Long story short they'll be shipping this Monday, I should have it by Thursday in plenty of time.

Excellent customer service!

Very nice  cooldude I've ridden for 44 years now and never had a backrest until 3 years ago. Can't imagine not having one now.
