Mr.Bubbles here we need the help of the VRCC family please. Monday my 89 yr. old mother (Betty Wilson) fell at her house and broke her left arm in two places. One of them a compound fracture. She didn't use her life alert button but instead wrapped a towel arround her arm grabbed her purse and keys and drove herself to the local hospital. They sent her to Herman Hospital in Houston to have surgery to repair the damage. The arm now has a plate, several screws in the large bone and rods and wire wrap on the small bone. The surgery went fine but she is not responding well to the pain in her arm and the bruised hip that she also got and doesn't want to get up and start walking arround so they will not release her I'm afraid she has just given up. laying in bed she is getting weaker by the day. Please pray for her to decide to try again.

Most definitely  cooldude Your Mom sounds pretty tough to me. Hopefully it's just a minor setback and she'll be up and at them in no time.

Praying he will lift her spirit, release her from the pain and restore her strength.

Prayers from Tennessee. If she's not ready to get up, make sure somebody turns her in bed at least every couple hours. Bed sores, bad for the older folks.

I tend to agree with that statement since sounds like she was one tough cookie driving herself all by herself to the hospital, pretty independent lady at her age.  Keep encouraging her to get UP and MOVING around for I know with both my parents from first hand experience just sitting around doing NOTHING shortens life expectancy.

Update. The prayers are working. After they got her off the strong pain meds. things started coming arround she is pretty much acting like herself again. She is still not wanting to do rehab but she knows if she wants to go home then rehab is the way to get there. I wish I could personally  thank you all for the thoughts and prayers but that would be very hard to do. I do think this board has some of the best people in the world on it. Thanks again

She didn't use her life alert button but instead wrapped a towel around her arm grabbed her purse and keys and drove herself to the local hospital.
They jus' don't make 'em like that anymore Bro!
Glad she's feelin' alittle better! Hard to get motivated on the meds.
Prayers for a full & quick recovery, God Bless!

She is from the GREATEST generation.  She IS tough and gritty.  Those folks didn't give up for anything !  Remind her of that fact and then help her up.  I am adding my faith to all of those praying for her.  I am believing she is getting out of that bed and making a full recovery.  Faith is speaking things that are not as though they are. (Paul). Believe it in your heart, Speak it with your  mouth and act on it.   Believe it, speak it over her and then act on it.  It IS done !  Give us the good news .

Oh man  I hated to read this.
Broken bones most certainly are very hard on the older ones. She needs to keep moving or pneumonia becomes the enemy. Just zaps you of energy you need to feel better.

Well wishes for a positive outcome!!

Just saw your post.  I;m sorry to hear that. I'm only a year younger than her and was going to say I'd take her for a ride in my Miata if we were closer.  Your post is bad news, indeed.

My prayers go out to you and your family.  I would pray that God would prove the doctors wrong.
