Looks like it was a rider's error in every case, someone going over the yellow line and colliding with a motorcycle or a mini-van in their rightful lane.  So, yes, we are seemingly trying to kill ourselves!

Something like 4 or 5 killed in the last month in Colorado, mostly around the Denver area.
Be extra careful if you're visiting this summer.

"The Parkway has spiral curves and riders need to manipulate their handlebars" . I don't understand what he is trying to say ?

Yep, and easily distracted riders.

Happens too often all over the country.

Gotta stay focused and look where you want to go.

Decreasing/increasing  radius turns

All properly designed traffic turns (vertical and horizontal) are "decreasing/increasing" in the basic form of an ellipse. This shape eases you into and out of the turns. If that were not so, the road would jerk you around like a roller coaster. cooldude

Not sure what defines a "spiral" turn. Maybe one that requires handlebar manipulation. I think I manipulate my handlebars on every turn by counter steering. angel

Maybe the writer (or me) doesn't have a clue. uglystupid2

Skyline and BRP were built long before current regs, and the thousand turns are not all equal by any means (many blasted out of rock were decided by the geography).  I've led a number of rides thru there with small groups from elsewhere.  I tell them to lay off the hwy pegs, sit up and pay attention (curves, elevations, deer, bear, drivers, and spectacular scenery).  I don't care how many years you've been riding elsewhere, mountain riding can go from easy to off the road (or across the yellow) in an instant.

When Mike (Hubcap) tells about being passed by an oncoming bike on the inside of his lane (and bike)..... that's the problem with overconfident riders.

There's also a couple turns on the western PA turnpike (Lincoln Hwy) that are much tighter than allowed by current regs.  About the only place I've ever been you can crank an 80mph turn leaned over to the dragging-parts point (somewhat legally).  They put signs up, but if traffic is light, I always ignore them.   Smiley
