So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: June 11, 2016, 07:39:20 AM »

Have been loading, arranging, re-arranging, unloading and various forms of the afore mentioned activities since yesterday.   Do I want to take this, will I need that.   All the normal stuff is easy but, it's the stuff I don't normally undertake while traveling that is causing me the frustration.

Will be changing out a rear dark side tire, what specifically do I need to bring along?   Jerry is bringing his tire rack thingy so, that covered.   Already loaded is the new tire, air compressor, bike lift and a few tools.   Anything specific I'm not covering in the tool arena?

Also going to swap out batteries, that's easy.   Will be installing a Lithium Ion battery into my baby.   Have you seen one of these things?   Smaller and lighter than any motorcycle battery I've ever seen.   I like the fact that it will lower the CG of the bike, not much but, every little bit helps IMHO.

Again, any recommended special tools for that tire change?
Not trying to be a pain in the ass to anyone but, I'd rather ask now than be one later on with a Valkyrie I can't ride.  Wink

Ill be changing to a lithium battery in the next week or so. Went out earler to srart the bike and the battery is toast. Only a year old and always on a trickle charger. Said it was charged but went to start and I got nothing but a dim headlight.

Ive been reusing mine. Hardest part is scooping them out of the old tire. I think a turkey baster or something similar would work better than the spoon I've been using. I got beads at Loves Truck Stop. In their tire mounting shop.

A turkey baster huh?  Well, that's going to go over like a lead balloon.

For beads try O'Reilly's auto parts. If not in the store the can usually have them by day's end or direct you to another shop that does have them. As for recovering the old beads, don't use a baster or spoon. Just steal one of mama's old panty hose or similar and put it over the intake end of the vacuum cleaner then suck away. The hose catches it all, just make sure you create a little pocket with her nylon hose and be certain it's tight when you press the nozzle in.

I was hoping to get my stems changed over for the trip, no such luck. I'll bring them with me and maybe something will work out to change them there..... Smiley Smiley

95% sure it is a 27 mm.  I'll throw mine in the bike right now.

EDIT:  Yep a 27mm.  Mine is an (impact wrench) 27mm socket, in half inch drive.

Front is 22mm.

I appreciate that Jess, I'll bring either a breaker bar or an electric impact driver.   cooldude

Thinking I have what I need loaded, I commented to my other half that I was anxious to get on the road, drive a while and rest some where enroute.    Her reply was less than enthusiastic.

I then advised her that encouraging me that way was almost a challenge.   We both know how that's going to work out.    Just need a short nap first.  Wink

Balancing bead recovery? Just cut a plug out of the tire tread and pour them into a container/bucket before breaking the bead. I use an old butcher knife and cut a square plug. A hole saw would probably work good. cooldude

turkey basters are cheap and can be used also to suck old gas out of gas tanks as well for small engines.   well worth the few bucks to get one and what if mama doesn't have any panty hoses?   2funny
