Took a ride to Montrose yesterday, great day to ride.  Passed a couple Valks on the way, nothing like riding in the backyard.  I used to really love this ride, especially ripping over Cerro both ways.  It was a great stretch, and the sweepers and tight curves with well placed passing lanes were a thrill to navigate at speed.  Well, the highway crew must have been training their new hires on this job.  They messed up a wet dream.  Early this spring, they tarred he snakes on Cerro -- heavily.  These things are like huge black pythons, rising a full quarter inch above the road surface.  When struck they come to life, writhing and twisting underneath your tire.  Hit 'em leaning in a curve at a good clip and a tight pucker is guaranteed!  A once great ride turned into a squirrelly obstacle course.  I actually found myself wondering if the crew foreman's ex ran away with a biker, and he (or she) was on a mission to kill us all!

On my previous bike, a V65 Magna, I rolled over a tar critter on a really hot day
and the front tire sucked the thing right out of its crack and wrapped it around
my tire.

Lots o fun that was to clean up.

Sorry Mike, we were originally going to Taylor Reservoir but ran into a slick-crap cattle drive and turned around.  Did you see the Darby ride info posted in the Colorado Rider's Thread?

When I was out in Wyoming I saw tar creatures like that, not the most fun, I prefer potholes, you can stand up and absorb the bump at least without worrying about lateral motion

Never saw a tar snake that I can recall when i was out your way

On the way to Devils tower 6 yrs ago is when I ran into some slippery ones. I usually have no trouble or worry about them but these did. Haven't been back till last yr and all was good.

This side of the country the Road folks seem to take delight in putting them on curves.  Can make it interesting at times. Especially when they suddenly appear from one day to the next.   Seems to take two winters/summers to get them where they don't effect the tires.   Last summer the road folks were working on our neighborhood roads.  Several corners looks like a fish net of tar snakes.  Have to driver in the gutters to keep Valk upright.   crazy2 crazy2
