Good, glad its working.
I'd recommend cutting the excess chain, but, not too short. I also see many chains adjusted too tight, I like to have about a good half inch slack in the arm.
thanks, just hoping and praying the wax ring is fine since broke the seal around it, but should be o.k. since not too crushed/flattened and re-formed the wax around the seal that came with it again should seal just fine I would think?? Only thing is maybe the wax might not be too tight against that seal anymore since had to push the seal back on again and reform the wax mushing up closer to the seal again. I also set a bucket just in case under the water shut off valve for a few days, not like that would do any good if it came gushing out.
Has anyone ever installed 2 wax rings under the tank to seal it or guessing that is overkill? The old wax ring scrapped off was in very good shape and not even flattened too bad over 23 years but was pretty hardened up as one could imagine. The old tank rubber seal between tank and toilet was very brittle and hardened vs. the new rubber seal was very soft and squishy. My problem all along was am sure just the flush valve seal was bad and now that I have the other type of flush valve with rubber flapper with chain, just that piece can be replaced next time if water leaking/still running into the toilet causing the fill valve to keep running.
There was a time when the wax rings were just one size and we would use 2. The excess just 'smushes' out and doesn't hurt anything. But, now, in these modern days, those rings also come in a thicker version.
Hopefully yours will be OK.
If you can fasten the chain up so it doesn't get caught in the flapper as KY mentioned then thats fine. I just find it easy to cut off long enough for future use and short enough not to bother anything.
