Good, glad its working.

I'd recommend cutting the excess chain, but, not too short. I also see many chains adjusted too tight, I like to have about a good half inch slack in the arm.

thanks,  just hoping and praying the wax ring is fine since broke the seal around it,  but should be o.k. since not too crushed/flattened and re-formed  the wax around the seal that came with it again should seal just fine I would think??  Only thing is maybe the wax might not be too tight against that seal anymore since had to push the seal back on again and reform the wax mushing up closer to the seal again.  I also set a bucket just in case under the water shut off valve for a few days, not like that would do any good if it came gushing out.

Has anyone ever installed 2 wax rings under the tank to seal it or guessing that is overkill?  The old wax ring scrapped off was in very good shape and not even flattened too bad over 23 years but was pretty hardened up as one could imagine.  The old tank rubber seal between tank and toilet was very brittle and hardened vs. the new rubber seal was very soft and squishy.  My problem all along was am sure just the flush valve seal was bad and now that I have the other type of flush valve with rubber flapper with chain,  just that piece can be replaced next time if water leaking/still running into the toilet causing the fill valve to keep running.

Don't cut the chain, just adjust it with the clip in a different link. Not long enough to get caught in the flapper but not to short so as to not close freely and seal. You will be replacing the flapper as they are seem to last only about 5 years give or take a little.

I have done 2 wax rings at times but ONLY when needed because the flange was lower due to people adding tile to floor. What is overkill just squeezes out to the sides underneeth. You should be fine. Have many times had to relift a toilet and reset.

To be honest I've never seen such a simple procedure turned into such a complication........Glad you got it done  cooldude

There was a time when the wax rings were just one size and we would use 2. The excess just 'smushes' out and doesn't hurt anything. But, now, in these modern days, those rings also come in a thicker version.
Hopefully yours will be OK.
If you can fasten the chain up so it doesn't get caught in the flapper as KY mentioned then thats fine. I just find it easy to cut off long enough for future use and short enough not to bother anything.

Two page toilet string! Wow! crazy2 crazy2

It is after all some of our thrones??   Roll Eyes

Seriously,  I just got my water/sewer bill and was WOWED in one month when it ran another 1200 gallons of water MORE than normal in one month.  The darn water sewer bill was near 30 dollars higher this past month due to leaking water running in poddy more so than normal.

I called the village since still think the bill was outrageous after she said a family of 4 with NEW increased rates for water/sewer combined went up around 30 bucks per month.  Bill was normally 110, was 163 bucks for ONLY one month and hopefully next month back down to 140 or so.

UNREAL who else pays 140 bucks or so for water/sewer bill in one month?  Hwy. robbery if you ask me in this hicktown.  tickedoff

Hint:  next time anyone notices a toilet running all the time,  shut the darn WATER SUPPLY off and turn it on ONLY when needing to use it until  you get time to replace parts in it.  tickedoff
