Given the likely traffic this week, I'd avoid Deal's myself but make sure to hit it in the fall or early next spring.  Just too many yahoo's in big shoes for the Dragon's tail.

Ride the Skyway. It's a nice enjoyable ride of reasonable length.

I've done deals gap a couple times never done cherohala.  Don't ride the tail on a weekend too many as hats going 3mph and traffic to heavy to enjoy the ride. Last time I was pulling a trailer and people were going too slow for me to idle through the hairpins. I had to put my feet down and walk behind them. Only had time to go through once . If I were to do it again I'd plan several hours to make a few runs so I could hopefully get a pass that wasn't contaminated by morons

It will be cooler on the Cherahola, and less cops (but still probably a few)

Suggestion.

Route to Robbinsville, NC
https://goo.gl/maps/H84jAJSq7Qx

Robbinsville to Tellico Plains over the Cherohala
https://goo.gl/maps/BBA7jNeYUn72

Tellico Plains to Cumming
https://goo.gl/maps/bXAGAcwjsup

This would keep you off any 4 lanes.

Adding in Deals Gap would make for a really long day.

Depends on what type ridin' you really enjoy.
The Dragon's tight & technical with little in the way of "views" but as far as crankin' & bankin' go, hard to beat.
Cherohala on the other hand is alot more "scenic" with long sweeping curves & great views all along the way (& 3 times as long).
If ya got time to make the N. end of The Dragon then I'd turn around on the spot at Chilhowee lake, boogie back to 143, run Cherohala at a brisk pace to Tellico Plains & take 68 & 60 South back toward Cumming.
Now that's a day ride!
Happy motoring cooldude

Make sure you get gas in Robbinsville. It's 51 miles to Tellico Plains.

Pay attention on Wayah Bald Rd and Cherohala Skyway. Please don't get distracted by the views.

Riding north on Wayah Bald there is a STRONG possibility that as you go up and over the mountain there will be gravel in the switchbacks.

Oops. There will be about 2 miles of 4 lane as you come off the mountain heading east on Hwy 64 before you turn left on Wayah Bald Rd.

thanks again Paul......we rode to TWO in Suches yesterday. He loved that ride and wanted to do more.
Wanted to stop at Wolf Pen Gap, I think thats what it was called, for a photo op but blew by it on the way back.
It was at the crest of the hill and we were by it before we could stop and not many places to turn around.
Maybe next time......
