There are some smart people in this world cooldude  I've been following the Juno saga.  What I find most amazing is that after 37 orbits Juno will plunge into Jupiter deliberately destroying itself. It was the same with the earlier Galilao.  The reason is Jupiter's moon Europa may harbor life and they don't want to risk having any earth born organism contamination.

Gee that's too bad they're going to destroy it, I was hoping they would send it out into space to do some more exploring.

I agree that would have made perfect sense to me also. Guess they know what they're up to though.

I do so hope I live long enough to see a mission that has been talked about and planned for some time now.  That is to land a craft on Europa and drill a hole through the ice layer and then explore the ocean of water beneath it that most likely has a rocky floor and may contain life forms, be they cellular or much more extravagant like our oceans.

I'm hoping for the same things but at 73 I think there's a fat chance. I would like to see a man on Mars, again fat chance.

I actually watched "2001" for the first time last week on one of the tv movie channels.  Pretty boring I thought and I had to go online and look up what it all meant.  Great graphics I guess for what, 1968?
Alpha Dog, hang in there, proposed launch in 2022.

Actually, no graphics, those were good old fashioned models.  Read the book, it explains a lot more.

When first released it was cutting edge special effects. A bit like watching Star Wars back then.

I can make that.  60 now.  Launch in 2022, get to Jupiter in appx 2027, and get to drilling ( will this be Bruce Willis )  or whatever method they use.
