here's a write up and this new movie that's out and apparently this Professor seems to believe "it’s about white privilege trampling over black power." http://heatst.com/culture-wars/the-secret-life-of-pets-is-an-allegory-of-black-pain-says-ohio-professor/"Professor Jason Johnson, a professor of political science at Hiram College, Ohio and political editor of African-American culture website The Root, claims to have uncovered the real meaning of new animated children’s movie" "Doctor Johnson makes it clear he is not being satirical: “If you want to know about The Secret Life of Pets, it’s all around you, and it’s not so secret. White and middle-class-acceptable values are prioritized, and the struggles of regular people are for sport or entertainment.” “The pain or frustration of black folks must always take a backseat to white folks’ learning about themselves or getting what they want,” he writes. “As long as you dress it up with funny animals, the message is much easier to swallow. You may not need a dog whistle for this story; the message is pretty clear.”

I have no college experience. Not really educated past the 12th grade and the Data Systems school I had in the Navy. But I think I can safely say I'm smarter than this professor.

Bummer. I thought the thread was going to be a review of the movie. Sometimes I like those silly cartoons....

This professor strikes me as just an angry man looking for justification for his rage. He already believes his problem is with whites, so it's not hard for him to see that everywhere he looks.
The sad thing is he is a professor; what is he teaching?

Oss, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law have three of their own children. They've adopted two African American babies, one is now 2 1/2 and their newest little brother is just a few months old. The two and a half year old has started to get up with her sisters for school. She follows them into the bathroom as they get ready for school. As she's getting older she's started looking in the mirror as the other sisters are doing. Our sister in law happened to see the initial look of shock when she saw her face (being several shades darker than her white sisters)!!! Lol Like the commercial says... "Priceless"

We took the boys to see it yesterday. It was a good movie for kids, I didnt see any reference to white privilege. If you're looking for trouble you will find it.

I took my 12 yo grand daughter to the movie last night. It was hilarious. I could imagine a number of former pets acting like those in the movie. Grand daughter laughed so hard at times she had tears in her eyes. Watch it for what it's suppose to be..... a funny kids movie.

We started keeping chickens a few years ago, and every time I see one running from behind, I think of 'Chicken Run'. They absolutely nailed it..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVdlxwX6A7g
