I've had the same type of ans. just for selling a dining room table. When I first posted it for sale I got hit about four times by some one wanting to buy. Some even offered $50 more if I would hold it for future pickup. They didn't  even  look  at  it. Scam written all over it. I just don't know what they are getting out of it. Oh something else, they always offered a cashiers check. I either didn't respond or said face to face meeting and cash only. I still have the table.

Scam, I had the same attempting to sell an auto. Told him to show up with cash and he could run the vin on his phone never heard from him again.
