Alarms and cops and dogs and forensic teams and searches ensued. At least there was no screaming and no blood.

Well...yet.

Wow, I am sorry to hear this Daniel.

Bad mojo.  Glad everyone is OK (well, not glad the perp is OK, deranged SOB).

More damage to repair.  This has not been your year.

Appears that she made the best of a bad situation with no physical harm; hope they catch the guy and give him a term in jail that is in line with what damage he did to your home.  Restitution for whatever you can get out of him.  Your wife is a smart and brave person in her reaction.

Damn, that sounds pretty intense. I sure am glad she got out unhurt. She does sound pretty cool under pressure. I'm with you, I think I would have been aerating the dude. I hope they catch the weasel before he is able to hurt someone.

Never actually gained entry...apparently once he realized she'd bugged out...he did too. Or it could have been the sirens and alarms...

In the short term, perhaps she should answer the door with a Louisville Slugger.

Better yet, just don't answer the door at all.

Scary.  Likely some brain addled druggy desperate for money for his next fix.  Your wife handle it admirably.

Would have been a better ending if she ventilated the dude.  But that would have been more hassle for you.  Glad everyone  you care about is safe.

She did exactly what we should do.  We think immediately of poking a few holes in the SOB.

I have been studying a lot about the legal aspects.  Keep in mind that cops are supposed to go toward the trouble, civilians do not.

Call 911, then stay in a safer place in the house.  If he comes at you, then react.  Keep in mind when you call 911, the cops own the situation.  Don't be waiting for the cops standing at the front door with a gun.

You positively do not want to be put into a legal situation unless you know that you are absolutely right.

Daniel, she did exactly right!   She's cool!

Whether we know it or not, a similar situation is in each of our futures.   There are few safe places in today's world.   Glad this one turned out better than it could have.......

Sorry to hear of this encounter and near tragedy.  Afraid we will hear of more of these as the economy stays bad.  Have not been any such reports in our rural community - I believe just about everybody around here is armed.  But I'm guessing it will happen - some perp from town will think we are sitting ducks out here and get himself ventilated.

Nice thing about country folk, they often have backhoes too.

This has not been your year.

Well...this year has been financially devastating...the amount of work I need to get done and the amount of money I need to spend just to get back to where I was THREE years ago is disheartening...

BUT...

Other than that his year has been great! Neither of us has been injured in any of these events, we're both still on this side of the dirt, and I held my lady in my arms last night.

Doors have been repaired. A better lock installed on the storm door (one that can't simple be jerked open)...and the ordinance the wife had ready, cleaned, double-checked, and re-racked. ("You want the Thompson?" "No I prefer the shotgun...")
(that's a paraphrase from a movie quote)

So much of the good and bad of this life is made up of our perception, isn't it.  I am so glad she is okay.

As to the Thompson or the shotgun I do believe that it is a good thing for a person to be prepared to protect one's life and those who depend upon us.  That said, it is a terrible thing to have to live with to take another's life even justifiably so.  I hope you help her become prepared for something I hope she never has to do.

She was prepared as could be expected...when she thought she was trapped she had at the ready...00-buck in a Mossberg delivery system and of all things...the Samurai sword...but she did right when the obvious chance to bug-out came along...she took it without hesitation.

Related...there's also a camera system coming as she said that if something like this should ever happen again she wants "to know exactly where the bastard's at".

Quite a lady, my lady is.

(Not that Clarksville is immune from such things but...) I just can't imagine WHY you'd wanna bug out from the Metromess and move to a tiny town 200 miles out in the boonies...

…and clean and oil those other things…

And make sure all adult family members know how to use them and can get to one readily if necessary...

Glad it was nothing more than some replacement windows and a few extra blood pressure pills this time!

Easy to monday morn quarterback, but when she ran out, she should have taken the shotgun with her.

I realize it's disturbing to see someone running with a shotgun, and that can also cause trouble.

But if he came running around the house after her (or had a partner)..... now she's in business.

I had a big dog get real aggressive in my little 4' chain link back yard on base (leash law violator).  I wasn't too worried, though when he stood on hind legs, he was up over the fence.  I took a broom to him, and instead of running off, he started to come over the fence (acting rabid), so I ran in and got my 18" 870, deciding to kill him.  I jumped the fence and chased him down the street, then stopped.  Running around with your 870 at high port arms is not done on USAF bases.  I put it down my leg and walked back to my house waiting for the base cops.  No one showed.  The dog never came back.  Lucky for him.  Always suspected the owners caught the last part of the drama, and kept him on a leash after that.

I lived in the token captain's house on colonel's row.

Overjoyed at the safeness of the outcome, pissed that it happened, going to re-check my arsenal... Seems like you and your wife have made good choices in many things, including each other.
