Took a ride up the Fraser Canyon today, about a 500 km (300 Mile) round trip to Spences Bridge. This road used to be the main traffic & truck route to the BC interior up until the early 80's, causing all kinds of havoc in the Winter months. With a new quicker route (#5) now in place, the Fraser Canyon (#1) is now just a scenic option with much less traffic.

Cut along the mountains following the mighty (and muddy) Fraser River, which runs from the BC Rockies on the central/east border and across and down to the Pacific Ocean just outside of Vancouver, the Fraser Canyon section features 7 tunnels carved through the rock on the highway side, and many more on the railway side.

The "Muddy" Fraser served as the primary transportation route in BC for the fur, lumber, and mining industries in the 1800's, serviced primarily by sternwheelers prior to the building of the rail line, and it's banks are  where the first BC settlements were established.

Thompson River, largest tributary of the Fraser, joins up just South of the town of Ashcroft

Met up with a group of friendly Brits from Vancouver in their 30's to 40's MG's....6 of 'em out for a weekend run, on the last half of the popular Whistler-Lilloette-Vancouver loop

Well, it was Sunday, so....

A great place to stay in Spences Bridge if you do the overnight loop  Wink Wink

One last shot, before the run home cooldude

Love that run! Used to live near Seattle and BC was our favorite choice to ride. Want to return, such great scenery! Thanks for the pics and the "money shots".

About 30 C, which is 86 F up near Lytton at the top end. Lytton is often the hot spot in all of Canada during the Summer months, at times reaching temps over 100 F. Throughout the canyon, temps are usually lower...Sunday was around 80 F... not too bad.

Beauty pics Mike!  Never stop appreciating where you live!

And just so you know, when we do eventually meet, I'll be breaking one of the commandments and coveting my neighbours bike. That's my favourite colour scheme and I'm wishing I'd have waited for an interstate.

A neat ride, nice pics, but next time I'd recommend to consider making it a loop. The best scenery IMHO is when you turn off at Lytton, carry on to Lillooet and then to Pemberton. Some of the best m/c road available. Then on to Squamish on the Duffy lake Road and down to Vancouver/Maple Ridge. All paved, all marvelous. In fact that'll be a great intro ride for me on my newly acquired 98 Valk Tourer (from a previous owner in Maple Ridge!

Yes Mike, Ive done that loop many times over the years, and yes that section is fantastic. However, time constraints and the fact that I just hate going towards or anywhere near the city when out for a ride are the reasons I did just did the "up and down" on this occasion.  Most of my local riding goes towards or through Hope on either #1 or #3 .... we will have to hook up one time  I'll send you a PM next time I'm out that way.... feel free to do the same. Congrats on your new (to you) Valk cooldude
