Took a ride up the Fraser Canyon today, about a 500 km (300 Mile) round trip to Spences Bridge. This road used to be the main traffic & truck route to the BC interior up until the early 80's, causing all kinds of havoc in the Winter months. With a new quicker route (#5) now in place, the Fraser Canyon (#1) is now just a scenic option with much less traffic.

Cut along the mountains following the mighty (and muddy) Fraser River, which runs from the BC Rockies on the central/east border and across and down to the Pacific Ocean just outside of Vancouver, the Fraser Canyon section features 7 tunnels carved through the rock on the highway side, and many more on the railway side.

The "Muddy" Fraser served as the primary transportation route in BC for the fur, lumber, and mining industries in the 1800's, serviced primarily by sternwheelers prior to the building of the rail line, and it's banks are where the first BC settlements were established.

Thompson River, largest tributary of the Fraser, joins up just South of the town of Ashcroft

Met up with a group of friendly Brits from Vancouver in their 30's to 40's MG's....6 of 'em out for a weekend run, on the last half of the popular Whistler-Lilloette-Vancouver loop

Well, it was Sunday, so....

A great place to stay in Spences Bridge if you do the overnight loop

One last shot, before the run home
