Just met a fella last week and spent a couple hours talking. He is 48 and recently diagnosed with terminal colon cancer and was taking chemo [ only option he has] just help prolong things. His spirits were still good, nice guy.

I've recently said I would not get another colonoscopy [ had 3 ], but, I think I'll be changing my mind about that.  It is not that bad, in fact, pretty easy and simple.

I think they recommend starting at 50, maybe, sooner may just be 'more better'.

What happened to the others that you said that you wouldn't get another one?

There's nothing to them....they put you out...you don't know anything...you wake up a little bit later and go home.  Easy peasy.

If they could make the prep not so hard and nasty.. it wouldn't be so bad. The actual procedure - they put you out, and you wake up , get dressed and go home.

It's hell when you're a diabetic and they schedule you really early in the morning so you can get back on your diet routine to minimize your glucose spikes. To do that early in the morning - I had to do my 2nd / final dose of prep at 11 Pm - which meant i was still "working" at 1 AM (WAY past my bedtime).

I get er done every 5 years,, coming up next month.. always ok but its no big deal. The clean out is worse than the procedure. And I hate taking time off work.

Had it done twice an the procedure is a piece of cake, the prep is tough. I was awake all night and every 20 minutes doing my thing. Hate it but better to know if there is a problem.

The ones I've were easy, nothing to them except for the prep. But the prep goes pretty quick and just part of the deal. Since one really doesn't know anything you're at the mercy at what you are told.

Our colonoscopy guy also does the other end also. Due to my swallowing issue I made an appointment with him. [The previous ENT said there was nothing wrong]. I told both my exact symptoms, like a stuck fish bone.  2 camera's and claimed nothing wrong. So, now comes the scope down the throat. Well, again nothing wrong.  The throat was scoped a month or so after the colon.

Just to shorten this story up we'll skip past the next 2 hospitals and 4 doctors.

Fast forward, I leave Florida early and go to a large city New York hospital with an excellent reputation. The doctor knew exactly what was wrong with me within 10 minutes and told me exactly what I was in for. I like that, a no nonsense kinda guy. He scheduled treatment with a local expert and a petscan.

The petscan lit up the neck and the colon. Now, the colon guy had said nothing was wrong with the colonoscopy or the throat scope. This guy is a 2 time loser with me.

The colon apparently turned out to be a nonissue considering the chemo treatments given. It was said the chemo would take care of the colon along with the throat [along with the radiation]. Double duty so to speak.

So, I'm not as concerned about another colonoscopy other than what I have been reading about related problems and have just heard about a friend that had his colon torn during one and went thru hell for a period until it was figured out and corrected. So, I'll still be thinking about it.

Oh, the feeling of a stuck fish bone is the classic symptom of neck/throat/tongue cancer.  One would think that an ENT that had actually gone to school and studied medicine would know that.

So a problem that was complained about from the early stages went thru 4 hospitals/ 7 doctors and grew to inoperable stage 4.

I'm now finally with some of the best in the country and will be fixed. While sitting in their office one day a couple came in. We started talking. They were sent from Johns Hopkins [ Maryland] to New York to be treated by the same folks that are working on me.

These doctors are having me talk to others that are coming in with this problem. I'm still a little uncomfortable about this since I'm not completely finished and fixed yet. But, at least I can tell them some/most of what they are in for.

Sorry about the ramble. I wasn't going to do this. I was going to try and keep it short. I guess I'm not that good at that.

I sure hope he uses a different probe on the throat  Cheesy
