Heavily armed soldiers (14,000), extra police and security, housing costs, arenas, all kinds of other expenses. Why in the world would any city want to host such a money losing event.
Yeah, I know, it's the Olympics. So what............

Some profit during and after the games and some benefit post games from the new technology and infrastructure spending. But it's going to be harder to find hosts if the costs keep climbing and the threat of terrorism widens.

This is a heart warming story. A very cool ending. I hope the son wins.
An Uber driver's son is competing in the Rio Olympics, he was proudly telling his passenger about his son. She asked if he was going to go watch him compete. He said he couldn't afford it. This caused her to start a Go Fund Me page. Two days later, she had the money for his trip.
Very Cool Story.

This will be interesting to see how it all comes off. That city and country is a mess. I can't imagine how they got this and how they think they pull it off.

Excellent story!
Calgary actually made money hosting the 1988 Winter Olympics. A different time and different expectations of the host city.

Spent 10 minutes watching the opening because my wife wanted to. What was that thing that looked like a time lapse of a virus (Zika?) or fungus growing under a microscope? Was that supposed to represent something? Went and cut the grass

<---- Absolutely no interest in the Opening Ceremony or the Closing Ceremony. Honestly, not much interest in the games either. May watch that American swimmer that has so many medals, who ever he is but, wouldn't miss something I wanted to see and change the channel.
I specifically don't watch the ladies gymnastics. Learned long ago that was one way to get the evil eye from the S.O.

The Olympics should become a thing of the past.
