Let's make this a generic political story.
A powerful political figure, whose long political career is saddled with numerous scandals is constantly critiqued by an organization and rivals that constantly sue the government for public transcripts and records through the Freedom of Information Act. These transcripts and records reveal, on numerous occasions, either the appearance of impropriety or actual improprieties and criminality.
The conclusion here then is that the powerful elected political figure bears no responsibility for their improprieties or criminal acts because it was brought to light by political rivals?
Not that it was suggested that these things were improprieties or criminal, but those are the facts brought out by the release of the records being self evident.
