Do we have any mushroom experts out there??  I am a sinner!! I am Polish and the only mushroom I may be able to identify is the Moral mushroom.  Grandma's and Uncles took me mushroom hunting as a child and I did listen. I have some pics., of mushroom and wondered what they were. If they are poisonous or eatable, either way they still look cool.

Eat them, might take you on the biggest trip of your life  Grin  I know bery little about mushrooms. I always go with a buddy that is an expert. He has probably forgot more than I know about shrooms.

I know about magic mushrooms, I have never indulged myself, but many my friends have.  I think they grow off cow piles.  I am crazy not stupid!

Eating wild mushrooms is like Russian Roulette, if you don't know what you're doing (me) (from what I've read, you don't just die, you die..... badly).

Like many other things, the real bright colors are warnings... don't eat me.

The only ones I eat are those from the grocery.

The great big huge ones that grow in my yard, I throw out in the street for the neighbors to run over.

Yes I agree with you, here are some that are suddenly growing on the stump in my yard.  Here in Mich. We see allot of different type, I won’t even touch them with my bare hands if I don’t know what they are.  Mushrooms are not the thing you want to educate yourself on the internet, they have classes north of me, I would think it would be a hand on education directly, if you know what I mean.

Notice how they cuddle together as if they were trying to protect each other.

My parents use to send money to relatives in Poland, and as a Thank You they would send  dried mushrooms around Christmas time. Mom would put them in water to hydrate them, from what I recall, they were not mushrooms, they were table tops. They were huge!

I'm not posting pictures, but you have to consider the names given the bad ones;

East Asian brown death cap

East Asian death cap

Fool's mushroom

Destroying angel

Deadly Dapperling

Deadly Webcap

Autumn Skullcap

False Morel

Jack O'Lantern

Fly Agaric

Panther

Yeah, I want a large double cheese, double pepperoni, double death cap mushroom pizza please.  crazy2

Look at the symtoms of eating False Morel and see if you think it is worth eating the wrong 'shroom.

I remember reading about Beefsteak and the False Morel, ID had to do with the stem, to be sure. If I ever went hunting, I would surly take one of those one on one classes.

My mothers anscestry was Lethwanian and my god mother used to take me picking wild mushrooms when I was 3-4 yrs old. I picked bushel baskets full of them along with wild strawberrys and rasberries. my veigh recolection of the mushroom that sticks in my mind was a somewhat thin one with a white purple and brown camoflag like  top. She would string them up in the attic to dry out and use them as needed. Smiley

I wish I had paid more attention, my father-in-law was the mushroom expert.  I only remember a couple, but, you can't find many around here anymore. Puff balls and wood mushrooms.
He would always boil them for a just a bit with a silver dollar, if the silver didn't turn black he said they were good. We never got sick, but, I'm not sure I'd trust that method with any strange 'room I picked.

Myself the same thing, I wish I would have paid more attention.  May be we should all put our heads together, based on what happens in Nov. we may all be looking for mushrooms to survive. LOL!
