What is the best way to pay/receive payment for an item from the Classified's? I've bought/sold some small things in the past without issues ($25.00 to $200). Paid and received item based on trust. No problem...how about in the thousands?
TIA

Same way as before if you know who you are dealing with, but someone that has only been hear a couple times CASH in hand would be preferred. Or you could use PayPal.

If you don't do PAYPAL (as I don't) for large ticket items have them send a Postal money order. Some bank produced ones are pretty cheesy looking and a lot easier to fake. Deposit the money order, your bank will know right away if its good, then send the item. That's what I'd do.

Yah, sending money order works as long as you talk to the person over the phone first to get a feel if he/she is legit or not. I just sold 150 bucks worth on craigslist to a guy in Colorado me in WI and he sent me a money order, deposited it last week, and since he was willing to pay for postage on a 26lb. package, he had a UPS account sending me then after I cashed the money order a postage paid address label. Package will be going out on Tuesday once UPS opens up again.
Trust is hard to find like that though and if 1-2K items and you are the one having to pay, I am not so sure I would be that trustworthy sending someone 1-2K even in a money order prior to shipping the item out to you.

Other than cash THIS is the best form of payment if something or someone has relations with the canine. Actually-this MIGHT be better than cash unless face to face. RIDE SAFE.

I have used PayPal, and money orders.
But like said, some money orders are easy to fake so I REQUIRE a Postal Money Order. They have to stop at the post office and give them cash before it will be issued.
If someone wants to try and fake one, there are holograms on the front that are extremely hard to duplicate. ALSO, if they try and pass a bad one, the Government postal police will follow up, and they have a easier time crossing jurisdictions.

You'd think that would be true and maybe so in the given example of a fake Postal Money Order but, when it's a stolen Postal Money Order, they surely don't get in a hurry to investigate and make good. Had one stolen where I sent several hundred dollars of payment for some items. Since the seller didn't receive it, he wouldn't do anything and thought I was trying to scam him. Took months to get it fixed. They never did catch the thief who apparently stole the check out of the seller's mailbox. Nothing is guaranteed.

With a Postal MO just take it to the post office and have them check it. If it's stolen they'll know it soon as it is scanned. Otherwise if it's good they'll tell you so. If the amount is small enough they'll cash it for you at the post office. Usually depends on if they have enough cash on hand but I've done it numerous times.

I use PayPal & personal checks.
If the other party is an established member, often I send a check and they send the merchandise. Often, the payment & goods cross on the mail.
I know I'm a trusting soul, but many others are too. I've yet to be burned.
In transactions larger than 500.00, I always use PayPal.
Does anyone know exactly what the respective rights are with PayPal on a failed transaction? I don't although I believe there is some protection.

It is years between my PayPal transactions, so I'm not an expert, but why would PayPal be involved if someone is unsatisfied with what they receive when they pay with PayPal? It would be parallel to my bank having being involved if I bought something from my neighbor with a cheque, and the cheque had already been cashed or deposited in their account, and then I wasn't happy with what they sold me. The bank doesn't care and has no responsibility. An eBay transaction is a different story, however, because in order to maintain eBay's reputation, eBay holds the seller responsible for his goods and delivery to be as advertised.

I have bought and sold things here, on the cb750c.com forum, and on valkyrie Facebook pages using paypal. I have accepted personal checks for small amounts and even mailed the items before i received the check. I have had buyers that have had confusion with paypal and the gift vs purchase so i lost money due to fees. Sent them a polite message and all was straightened out. As far as large purchases the only experience i have with that was purchasing my most recent valk through classifieds. Seller required cash in his hand before test ride.

Thanks everyone for the info on receiving payments. I posted by 1997 valk for sale in the classified two days ago and I think it will be "cash in hand" or "Paypal".

I think paypal started offering it last yr.
