Liar to say the least. Embarrassment  to the country.  U.S. Olympic Committee gonna hand down some type of discipline for the drunken stooper and MDP stunt in REO for the three swimmers.

Possible suspension?  Is that enough or an over reaction?

Most of these athletes take time off after a major competition anyway so, I don't see this as much more than a condemnation of his actions.    He's a big boy and has hurt his own reputation and is paying the price in lost endorsements.    Yes, he's embarrassed himself, the USOC and for some the nation as a whole but, to be honest, he's like a pimple, he'll eventually fade away.

I won't be buying anything that he'd be endorsing anyway so, I don't really care what he gets.   We're all responsible for our decisions and actions whether sober or not.    His problem, I'll let him deal with it.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Mexico Olympics -- their black power salute during the National anthem got them expelled from the rest of the games and stripped of their medals. While the swim team members' antics weren't that level of disrespect, they were still an embarrassment and in fact broke the law. Yes, Lochte is facing the consequences here of having lost all his endorsement deals. That's probably enough for at home, but I wouldn't be against extraditing him back to Brazil to face the legal music there. Maybe he doesn't deserve more punishment here, but he certainly doesn't deserve any extra protections, either.

As for the Olympic Committee, they're gonna do what they're gonna do. The guy must be nearing the end of his competitive career anyway, so whatever they donor don't hand down is probably moot.

Not sure of the latest, but there is a lot of evidence that Brazil authorities have NOT been anywhere near 100% honest in their dealings here, either.

The board was down yesterday and wouldn't post a response.

The others with him stayed with the original story. There are/were rumors that he was made/told by the committee to change his story. He has taken responsibility for his actions and apologized. He is still a kid and was drunk at the time. Who has not done something stupid at some time in their lifetime. I do something dumb about every hour.
We may never know the truth. I'm hoping we do get it sometime and think we might because he lives in next town from us.

Although I agree with most of this, I do not think a 32 year old is a "kid", and therefore excused.  32 is pretty much grown up, don't you think?

Yup, 32 years old and down there for the explicit purpose of representing his country under the watchful eye of the entire world. Yes, we've all made mistakes, but at a time when he's supposed to be on his best behavior, that one carries a bit more weight.

I hadn't heard anything about the Rio authorities being less than forthcoming, but that wouldn't surprise me, either.  Very unfortunate if that's the case, once again taking attention away from the athletes and their performances who are the whole reason for the event in the first place. Nor would it surprise me that this wimp-ass administration would fold and offer these guys up for slaughter, even bigger shame that that would be.

Interesting.  I don't watch the Today Show but after seeing the clip you posted I have absolutely no interesting in starting to do so.

Like others have stated I choose to believe our U.S. athletes and I'm pretty sure that anytime someone holds someone at gunpoint and demands money it is indeed an armed robbery.

That is indeed disturbing, and yet another example of the inordinate influence the media has on public sentiment on virtually anything. It's really friggin disgusting.

From what I have read, MOST of what Ryan said is true.  He did embellish what happened, and that is what is getting them.  But, the BASIC facts are pretty much what he, and the others, stated.

And, realize the language barrier.  The shakedown artists, ie "guards", spoke no English, and the swimmers spoke no Portugese.

So, armed people demanding money, can sure look like robbers.
