"That's just like, your OPINION, Man!"

NEAR the "In 'n' Out Burger"

WWW
« on: September 21, 2016, 05:34:42 AM »

I want to thank every one that went the extra mile to bail me out Friday.
Needed to go 320 miles to reach Ground Zero that day, but battery & alternator decided to take a crap at the 300 mile mark around 5pm. Called Gavin and told him the situation, he let me know that Bill Bakin had a spare alternator I could use. Cool.  cooldude
I had two (2) embedded mechanics with me, so Ryan ran to auto parts store and scored a new battery while Ben & I pulled all non essential fuses so we could shoot for a quick sprint to GZ before the new battery died. Just made it. Cool.  cooldude
Ben & Ryan are both good mechanics, but neither had done a Valkyrie alternator job before, so I allowed them to gain knowledge of that job on my bike in the parking lot.
Gordon, Bill Bakin, and others assisted with Mitcho adding technical supervision. Roger da Bull added tools and even a battery charger (we ran the power cord through his hotel room window all night for the charger!). A true group effort, LuLu & Wimp even provided the liquid refreshment.
Thanks to one and all for getting my sorry ass back on the road!
You guys rock!  angel
Now I need to get alternators repaired and get Bill's loaner back to him   cooldude
Thanks again.

I saw the alternator being changed but I didn't know the story behind it. That is not an easy job even at home in a well equipped shop. This club rocks.

When my ignition let go of my key on the DRO ride, two riders broke away from the group and rode back to the motel with me, then helped with the problem.

What a truly great bunch of people make up the VRCC.  cooldude

Just an idea, but I always carry a spare key on my dog tag chain for such emergencies.

The nice part about the trailer is that I can pack extra stuff like the tool kit..........in case I run into somebody who knows how to use them.  They have come in handy a couple of times.

Great story, Gig... thanks for letting the rest of us in on it. Many, many of us on here have received help from members over the years, and I'm most definitely in that group myself. It's been said many times that this group rocks, and that is certainly true. But, when the chips are down and your back is to the wall, these folks will not let you struggle or fail...

It is an amazing thing to witness, an even more amazing thing to be the beneficiary of good neighbor things like you just received, but... I've been told by those who repeatedly lend a hand, that the act of giving is the best thing of all... Your story sounds like a win-win for everybody!!! Again, thanks for telling it to us...

P.S. You are a pretty special guy, yourself... I happen to know a certain gypsy biker dude who has enjoyed your hospitality and benefited from his association with you... He wants you to know that he treasures your friendship more than you might imagine!

Glad it worked out for you.  When Jeff's alt took a dump on the Blue-Grey ride, we pulled all unnecessary fuses and swapped batteries from my standard with his interstate from Gettysburg to Motown.  If you have another valk with you on the ride, just one more way of gettin' there.

My first introduction to the "help" was at Eureka Springs  Ar. Do not recollect zackly who was broke down but by the time I got back with my tool bag the broke bike was on a lift bout a dozen tool bags and tool boxes were evident and the guy who owned the bike barely got to turn a wrench. I was the recipient of some help on a recent Mo. F C R. The folks who MAKE up this Club of ours ARE some of the best people I've ever shared wind with!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.
