This came up on my local craigslist and was wondering if anyone knows if it would work on a Valkyrie? I wouldn't mind having a gear indicator if it would work on our bikes..

I see no reason why it would not work. It certainly could be adapted with a little imagination.
I too wish my standard had in indicator.

the GW1500 has a gear sensor which the ignition uses for its advance curves. It is tapping into this sensor most likely.
The Valkyrie does not have the sensor due to its very basic low cost ignition system.

That looks like the plug 'n play system for the Wing. You don't have the wiring in place to accommodate it on the Valkyrie.

I agree with Carl, but I do often try to find 6th gear
as the bmw has it.

I do the same.

My old V65 had a digital 1-5 and OD (overdrive) display which was much appreciated, along with an adjustable anti-dive feature in the forks and self-canceling turn-signals which worked most of the time. The bikes weak point was a fork brace which could be broken if you allowed the front tire to come back into contact with the road too violently.  Embarrassed If you ever run into an 85 V65 with a forkbrace made from 1/4" steel plate, it's probably my old one.

Gordon, I made the switch on that switch  Roll Eyes  on my 1200 project. I do know the position of that pin in the switch on the 1200 is critical....the long end must align with the notch on the cover. The aftermarket gauge I put on the 1200 has gear indication, the engine was out of an '85 Lmited with the multi gear switch. I went ahead and wired it in, works great on the 1200, I assume it will work well in the Valk....the switch looks the same.
