building an internal army like in the movie "The Stand"

As his adopted hometown of Chicago achieved another grim milestone for murders occurring in 2016, President Obama was busy adding to a record of his own: felony offenders granted early release from prison under executive clemency.

According to the Washington Post, Obama commuted the sentences of 98 inmates last Thursday, bringing his overall tally during his time in office to 872. This, the Post reported, is more than the combined number of his 11 predecessors in the White House.

Forty-two of the latest group of prisoners had been serving life sentences, most for drug trafficking crimes.

And as with previous such commutations – see our reports here and here – the prisoners were not only contributing to the general misery and social malaise caused by the illegal drug trade, many of them illegally used firearms to perpetrate or facilitate their drug-related felonies.

This is one topic CA that I have a sort of split with you. The prison population is out of control since we are the in the grips of mandated sentencing guide lines. We have over 9 million people who are out from prison and unless they cannot get their rights restored are disenfranchised and have less rights than illegals who come to this country. When the Rockafellers got the bill passed through Congress that allowed very high times for crimes with drugs and took sentencing out of the Judges hands it made prison populations swell for crimes that were not a big deal.

One example Manufacture or distribution of less than 50 plants or 50 kilograms of marijuana is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The judges were sentencing the first timers to this kind of time for one plant or even a few leaves.

OR

If someone is convicted of the offence of trafficking or possession for the purpose of trafficking, and the amount of cannabis (or cannabis-based products) weighs over three kilograms, (6.6 pounds) the mandatory jail terms apply. Keep in mind, edible makers, that the entire weight of your product will count—not just the weight of the actual cannabis used in the product.

Yes there are some that should spend the rest of their lives in prison and some that need to be taken off the street.

But Obama should not be the one to do this and not by his pardon. It would be typical to get the hype but not make any solid changes for the betterment of society and the system as a whole. He should remove the mandatory minimum from the sentencing guide lines and allow judges and lawyers to do their job.

After 5 years they have lost any support or life and will start completely new.

Yes there are more blacks in jail for drugs, but color is not nor ever has been the way to make a decision of letting them off or putting them in jail. If you do the crime, do the time, but as a just society we need to be fair with crimes sentencing times. The war on drugs has been a failure except in spending tons of money and enslaving people and ruining lives.  But we need teaching and policies in place.

Of all the vile, immoral, anti-western civilization things He's doe and is doing, releasing non-violent prisoners who are incarcerated for committing victim-less crimes is not one of them.

I actually applaud Him for doing this.

Obama was a drug user himself so I'm thinking he sees this as harmless.  I don't happen to agree, but, thats beside the point.
He is releasing convicted criminals, clinton didn't even bother to wait for conviction before he issued a pardon.

i'm ok with releasing non violent non drug traffickers back into society. But ones busted for dealing drugs, i don't think so. They should be left to rot. So they sell your kid some bad heroin, your kid overdoses and dies because that dealer knew it was laced. You really want to release these people back into society? Busted for weed is one thing but when it comes to hard drugs that kill people leave them locked up or just shoot them. shooting them would be cheaper and easier. Some countries it's automatic death for getting caught with drugs.

Why have sentencing if they don't have to serve the time? Save us all some money and quit arresting them uglystupid2

That info is all well and good, and I think pot is one of those things that should be legal for adults to use recreationally. But the folks he is letting out ain't your local weed dealer. He is cutting loose the career dope slingers, repeat felons selling Crack and Heroin to our kids, most of them also carrying records for violence and weapons charges, the ones that should be staying in prison.
