I wonder how this would move a Valk Frame? Seriously though I do not know what in the world to do with it. I just thought it had a cool factor of around 40 on a 1-10 scale. Knowing me I will eventually sell it. Told my wife if nothing else I would toss our oak dining room table, then put a large glass top on the engine after cleaning it up and painting it. She did not like the idea but really who is for this table idea? I think that would be great!!! .JPG)

Those engines are prime candidates for some of the old antique wooden race boats. Should be fairly easy to sell if the internals are in decent shape. I see a few of them every year down in Florida at the event held in Tavares in March.

Thanks Pappy, you are certainly correct. There has been a boat at Tavares called the Gale V. It is an exact replica of the original Unlimited Hydroplane. My Grandfather, Joe "Doc" Terry, was the crew chief of that boat when it won the Gold Cup in Seattle in 1955. This pic is from Aug in Detroit at the Gold Cup.

Back in the day out in Ca. goin up the vine I wuz passed by one of those V-12s and he was loaded! During the daylight the flames were visible out of the stacks. At night it was truly something too see.  If those V-12s were running straight pipes-most of them were at that time-you WOULD hear them long before they caught up with you. I used to drive a 440 V-8 Detroit with an automatic that would give bull dozer motors fits. You Know-the yellow ones whose name starts with a C!  RIDE SAFE.

Mike, you also might contact someone at the EAA(Experimental Aircraft Assoc.), let them know what you have and if they know of any possible interested parties. They have a Vintage and Warbird section within the organization. On a separate note....got my new hip bolted in a couple weeks back. Feeling/doing great. You're right bud, was worth it.

But if you could clean and paint that with everything left on that would be pretty nice also. Maybe as a workbench in the shop if she won't let it in the house. I'm not familiar with these engines. Why do they need so many belts ?

From the looks of it , it was used as a pony or stationary motor . Maybe in a gravel pit or in a generator room. The V-belts are used to prevent shock loads. We worked on rotary well drilling trucks that had 12 belts to drive the rotary head. Some engines had an easy life while some were worked and abused.

I seen a 65 mustang with an allison engine in it at Lyons drag strip in 1967. I rode my 66 Norton down there from the SanFernando Valley with my brother-in-law. The driver had to sit in the back seat to fit in. Pretty neat to stand there within 10' and feel the concussion of the open exhaust. He lost to a standard drag car with a V8. I think it was because of the high weight of that engine in a small car. Fun to watch.

My Grandfather, Joe "Doc" Terry, was the crew chief of that boat when it won the Gold Cup in Seattle in 1955. This pic is from Aug in Detroit at the Gold Cup.  I remember that boat running at Madison In. on the ohio river in the 50"s around 130 mph if I remember right. You certainly remember correctly. The Gale V is arguably the most popular Gale boat because of its Gold Cup victory in Seattle, 1955.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is a beautiful thing. Keep us informed of the out come.  But I would love to see it running it seems kind of an injustice to turn it into a table.

The Gale V was my favorite hydroplane when I was a little guy. Owned by the Shoenith's, i think. We used to go to The Gold Cup races whenever they came to Detroit, which was se were truly the glory days of Unlimited Hydroplane racing. So many great ones.
