So I wanted a handlebar analog clock. I did not want to spend too much, until I saw how much I actually used it. Turned out I used it all the time. So really I am happy yo pay for a quality analog handlebar clock.

The story...... it failed after 6 months  and I assumed the battery had died. The back of the clock was totally faked to look like you could use a back removal tool to do...that. So I bought one. But the indents to fit the tool were so shallow I had to dremel them out and that resuled in piercing the back.....really thin.

In the end it was a not a screw-in back at all needed to be hoiked out. OK. I replaced the battery and it still failed. OK. It cost less than $20. It had a seriously nice bar mount that I reckon I can use for other stuff.

So I bought another one. When it arrived I saw it had the wrong time and started to try to adust it. Then I realised that the pitiful response to the fake back on the old model was to simply not allow me to take the clock out of its mount to alter the time!!!!! WOW

I then found that actually the clock was already dead.

So yeah. I really love a bar clock, preferably 12V wirable. I have not found one that got good enough reviews to justify the cost.

Any help appreciated.

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

Nick, I have had this clock on my bike for over 10 years, its battery operated (so not the 12V your looking for) and I have never had an issue with it. I have replaced the battery on it twice and it was not difficult. It's waterproof and the display is backlight (not form the battery) so you can read it at night too.
The price is not bad either, I put one on the wifes bike too, the only issue with hers is it is not backlight

I got these (a clock and a thermometer) 10 years ago. A VRCC fellow
machined the aluminum holder and sold them on eBay. The clock
and thermometer are cheap commodity parts from China, I searched
them out once, they're the kind of thing you get a gross of for
$1.99 (or whatever  Smiley ) ... the clock keeps good time and I just change
the battery every now and then...

Wow 10 Years. Yessir that's my baby. Sounds good. Thank you. The m12V was not important, as I now realise the clock died, not the battery. I haver hadf kitychen clocks that ran for 5+ years on a battery...bigger batte3ry but much bigger clocks. Backlit would be a bonus.

Thanks. Off to buy.

Edit Corr bum. Post doubles the price (to Oz in the antipoodes). But that's OK. This is a "must have luxury" for me and as I said I will pay for a good product

I also had the same thing happen to my clock.
So I then used a $10 wrist watch I grounded the ears off to make it look better, then used a L bracket and bolted it to the windshield bracket.

I will check it out, but sometimes I prefer not to know how hot it is. I try to avoiid it but if I get caught oin 35-40 deg C....

As a yunker, I used to wear a huge woollen army greatcoat in all weathers. It was actually surprisingly cool, I guess like Arab robes are cool. But one time we all rode up to a lake, and I jumped in coat and all. Nearly drowned, buthad a nice damp cool ride home! Cheesy

HAHA! Yeah that could be the way. As I said the mounts for these clocks are really nice Al extrusion sections and look good. They have to be worth a good percent of the total value, if you had to replace them from the shop.....so yeah

Got this nice one where they machined a hole in the stock handlebar clamp back in the early days when people made things for those new Valkyries... The clock battery died a few years ago, and since I use the GPS (And now phone) for a clock now, haven't bothered to replace it, but it was sure cool back in the day, and still adds a bit of class to the cockpit...

Yeah that has class, no doiubt about it.

Sorry I meant to add that my problem with digital stuff including the phone, which I also use for nav, is that in bright light you just can't see the screen

Clocks 4 Bikes
ross@clocks4bikes.com
I have a analog clock and thermometer.  Free batteries for life.
Ross even replaced my clock when it was lost (stolen) out of the mail.  An empty envelope arrived at his shop and he was kind enough to send me an existing one he had on hand.

I bought this set of 3 from China, I think they were less than $10.
The thermometer doesn't seem very accurate but the clock is spot on.
I change the clock battery every year.
They're also backlit via a button battery, which lasted a couple of years.

I am not looking for cheap, but if you are getting reliable and backlit with good battery life,  do you have a site? If not what is the third gauge? Maybe i can search on all three

billy

I always refer friends and family to Clocks4bikes and was about to post the link here only to find out that they have closed their doors  Sad

Ross and Linda were always stand up people and ran a great business but the made in china cheap stuff was just too much and I guess it was not in the cards to keep rolling like that.
They still offer replacement battery service for past customers

Not to change the subject at all, but after reading this thread I lit up the Googler. Aerostitch sells things other than great riding gear. They have this on their site.....I've never heard of something like this before. I don't know how it works either....lol

In the not cheap category.    http://www.motosens.com/english/time_e.htm

Rams has some of these gauges and they seem to be very high quality.

Lightning is a massive electromagnetic event. If you listen to analog radio, you have a lightning detector. I  believe that assumptions are made about your "average" strike and based on that the strike's proximity can be estimated.

These are definitely cheap. I didn't really expect them to last long but after two or three years they still work.
They're really for a car . I had to drill the tab on the back to fix them to my screen.

The third gauge is a hygrometer.
I've just searched on Ebay and can't find any white faced ones, but there are some black.

I had one almost exactly like yours. Being a machinist I made my own and installed a timex pocket in it. It ran on a battery and I swapped it out once a year with another watch that
i bought at the time I made the handle bar clamp. Two watches  just change the battery every year. I got two just in case one broke I'd have another an after ten years they both still work.
