The killer Dylan Roof has been found guilty on all counts. Which in itself is not surprising. What is surprising is the ability of the community to handle the horror with such grace. Every time I see an interview of one of the survivors or a family member, I am struck at how forgiving and Christ like they have been. I unfortunately can say with certainty that I wouldn't be able to handle it this way. In this crazy messed up world we live in, it's very comforting to see such good and righteous people among us. My hat is off to all the people in Charleston.  cooldude

My opinion is that it is all about the friends and family members
of the people in Charleston who were killed.

My opinion is that South Carolina's politicians are working for
Roof by mollycoddling him and giving him our Confederate
heroes, who don't have anything to do with the murders.
Roof should have quietly been placed in the general
population at Kirkland Correctional Institute where he
could start getting what he deserves right away and
plenty of it. Instead, the media has his smirking picture
on the front page every day, and the unwashed dregs
have been empowered to rip down our Confederate
monuments.

You live a long way from here and haven't been paying
attention. It was a circus in South Carolina after the
shooting. The most focused and high-fever fit that
I can remember was pitched at our State House, all
of our feckless Senators except for three voted to
rip down the flag from the soldier's monument.
People like me don't like being made out to be
worse than Isis, and Dylann Roof has been made
the face of the Confederate flag to people all
over the country.

I am the face of the Confederate flag. I can deal
with it, I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me,
but I have been sold down the river by the
politicians I voted into office.

Good riddance to Nikki Haley.

My memory is not so good. I thought all the Confederate flag controversy stuff happened before his slaughter.

We made a deal with our feckless ones to move the flag from the State House
dome to the soldier's monument in 2000, that's probably what you're thinking
of.

I always believed they'd renege at their earliest convenience, but I never dreamed
they'd be so low down as to do it under the circumstances that they chose.

Wrong. Meaning no respect offense, but you probably wouldn't know a Confederate flag if you saw one, and if not you would still have plenty of company, including the governor of South Carolina.

Roof should be strapped in the chair at the sentencing and the jury's sentence should never be heard, only felt.

Once he gets into general population I think you will see him exit life as we know it.
That or he'll be lock down 23/7 for the rest of his natural life. And for that one hour of exercise he'll be closely watch. But things do happen even then !!!

I'm sorry this turned so negative so fast. My post was meant to honor the people of Charleston. I am very impressed with the way they have handled such a horrific incident.

It should be all about them, but that is not how it has been handled.

In Chicago:

4 were people shot on Thursday:

5 people were shot on Wednesday:
  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-man-wounded-in-shooting-on-lower-west-side-20161214-story.html

6 people were shot on Tuesday:
  http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/12/14/6-wounded-in-chicago-shootings-tuesday/

The shootings in Charleston were the personal tragedies of a
group of people that none of us (I don't guess) even know. But
they are being used as a political football and a way to sell
newspaper and television ads all over the country.

You are probably right. I just thought the grace of the survivors and family members was very inspiring.

On this there is no argument. I can't say I would have been so humble. The victims families are setting a true Christian example. Unfortunately they were used for further division among cultures of folks who quietly and peacefully celebrate their heritage and history.
