That's exactly what I meant. After I posted, I realized some people might think it was about the bikes....

It's really horrible what elephants in captivity are subjected to.

The old days are gone. I think in the modern world it is captive elephants
that will survive. Non-wild elephants aren't all mistreated (I didn't
watch the facebook video) a lot of them do useful work and that
makes them valuable which tends to save them from destruction.

We got some really nice lumber from South America through a
program that Jacques Cousteau had something to do with. Slowly
turning trees into lumber saved large swaths of forest from slash
and burn agriculture.

Not sure where this was but the penalty for illegal parking in a handicapped zone is the strictest I've ever seen.

I dont think that is so sad actually and the reason is the Indian culture. The elephants are extremely important, respected and revered in Indian culture. It's such a strikingly beautiful and majestic animal and is nearly impossible to think about India without thinking about elephants. It is because its hard to find somebody in India who doesn't know how important those animals are.But truly Indians, and Hindus, are in some way or the other, committed with this animal. Be it as an admirer, a believer, a worker, etc.

Everyone has a bad day sometimes, but that is more than likely in this case and not because of captivity. I actually am glad it happened there since the elephant more than likely will not be put down. What I feel for is the elephants in zoos that are so beat down and never get out and are pretty much left to die. Or the ones out in the wild with shrinking habitat and the poachers ever present for Tusks. Now that is sad an elephant dead because of the tusks. Even the meat is left rotting on the ground.

Yes there are abuses among the Indians and Hindus which is indeed sad. Because of the general interest for this animal and many dont know of the abuse and pay to see them and pose with them the elephant becomes a source profit and they are abused and neglected raised for profit only.

We have dogs here that go nuts once in awhile, the Indian culture has elephants. We all have pets and we dont look at them with sadness. The Indians have elephants and they have had generations of taking care of the them. Just as we have the ASPCA here monitoring abuses in India they do not have this, but that does not mean the this elephant was abused or mistreated.

I never said it was abused or mistreated but an animal such as that if treated well I have no problem with but when they are abused used in circus' or zoos I really don't like that and yes we all have pets. Mine are probably treated better than most people's children. I have no kids so they are like kids to me. coolsmiley
