I did not want to hack old2soon's post , so I thought I would start a new one!

I was in Airborne basic training. We would pick up our mess tray as we walked in the mess hall. The food was plopped on the tray. All the tables were clean and the chairs were pushed in. Start eating as you walked to the back door. Un-finished food was dumped in a trash (hog) can. The local hog farmers got it for slop. This went on for the first four or five weeks.  After that , we got to sit for two or three minutes. From day one , eat , run three miles.  Mileage was added every few days) To this if there is a high din when I am eating , the food is gone before most can butter a roll. I have to be very careful to take my time when eating. I was in basic in 1966.

In middle and high school our days were broken into 20 minute modules. There was a 5 minute buffer to get from one class to another class/ lunch room. By the time you could get through the lunch line you may have had 15 minute to eat. Many times if the line was slow it would be less than 10 minutes. I'll be 62 in April of this year. I'm generally still done eating in under 15 minutes. When I was still drinking, a 6 pack only lasted an hour. I bought by the 12 packs or cases.

I don't think I have any bad habits picked up from my 4 years in the Navy. But I bet my fellow workers would disagree with that.  Wink

In basic , when we got a break , if you were not smoking , you were put on cleanup detail. I smoked to avoid the cleanup. I should have done the cleanup. I haven't smoked in over 35 years but wish I would have never started. I still drink coffee.

Well in the Navy you could NOT throw food away in basic in 1964. Same on the ship-take all you want eat all you take. Coffee?? Can't hardly git my day goin without it.  tickedoff 24/7/365 coffee could be found in the Navy.  2funny Thinkin tween the Navy and drivin truck they both added to my sometimes-not so much anymore-colorful cursing.  Roll Eyes Had an old E-7 Chief give me a very "professional" ass chewin-chewed around the hole and let the hole drop out.  crazy2 His name escapes me but some of the Words that man used stuck with me for a LONG time!  Embarrassed And before AYONE asks-Yes-some of his "suggestions" were/are anatomically impossible! RIDE SAFE.
